• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

VISTA CRUISE - problems

For those that have installed the vista cruise I would like to pick your brains just a bit about your install and how well it works since I installed one as per ATADUDE's instructions and it is a pain more then it helps.

1. once the vista cruise is installed and not locked how freely does the throttle move (i.e. do you have to roll off the throttle or will it return by itself)

2. once the vista cruise is engaged and locked how well does it hold the throttle. For example does it disengage if you go over a bumpy or rough road ?

3. just exactly where is the best place for the thumb lever of the vista cruise to go. On ATADUDES it appears to be more at the front of the switch housing but in a picture of Lammonts it appears to be more under the throttle towards the bottom of the switch housing then in front of it.

4. When you removed the ridge on the throttle sleeve how smooth did you leave the throttle sleeve where the ridge was.

I ask these questions because for my vista cruise to actually work I have to have it so tight that the throttle becomes a workout to get it to move. When I back off the set screw on the vista cruise to a point where I am not having to break a sweat to operate the throttle, the vista cruise either disengages by itself or slowly allows the throttle to roll off thus defeating the purpose of the throttle lock.

I am wondering if the "smoothness" of the throttle sleeve has anything to do with my problems and if rotating the vista cruise so that the thumb lever is more towards the bottom would eleviate the disengaing problem.

Opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

My responses are in bold.

1. once the vista cruise is installed and not locked how freely does the throttle move (i.e. do you have to roll off the throttle or will it return by itself)It will stick and SOMETIMES I have to roll of the throttle. I think it's always a good idea to roll of the throttle anyway.

2. once the vista cruise is engaged and locked how well does it hold the throttle. For example does it disengage if you go over a bumpy or rough road ?Yes, I have had mine disengage for no apparent reason. It is touchy and needs to be adjusted carefully.

3. just exactly where is the best place for the thumb lever of the vista cruise to go. On ATADUDES it appears to be more at the front of the switch housing but in a picture of Lammonts it appears to be more under the throttle towards the bottom of the switch housing then in front of it.User preference. What ever feels more comfortable.

4. When you removed the ridge on the throttle sleeve how smooth did you leave the throttle sleeve where the ridge was.As smooth as possible!

I ask these questions because for my vista cruise to actually work I have to have it so tight that the throttle becomes a workout to get it to move. When I back off the set screw on the vista cruise to a point where I am not having to break a sweat to operate the throttle, the vista cruise either disengages by itself or slowly allows the throttle to roll off thus defeating the purpose of the throttle lock.I can't remember for sure but I seem to remember something about making sure you have it engaged BEFORE you drill the hole and screw it down. This should prevent this from happening.

I am wondering if the "smoothness" of the throttle sleeve has anything to do with my problems and if rotating the vista cruise so that the thumb lever is more towards the bottom would eleviate the disengaing problem. The position of the thumb lever should have no effect on the action of the locking mechanism.

Opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

I had to play with mine quite a bit before I got it right. The throttle sleeve needs to be pretty smooth so that you have full contact on the throttle itself. If you don't it has less area to grab and therefore needs more pressure to hold. When you have too much pressure it disengages very easy.

The throttle should be completely free to spring back. If it isn't now that's not good. I drilled a slightly larger hole in the VC so that the screw I ran into the switch housing had a little play when it wasn't locked.

As far as where to have the throttle lock, that's really up to you. Where I have mine works great and takes less effort to lift my thumb to lock it in.

I assembled mine to secure over the grip. I have the version with the stability extension. Also look at "throttle mate", it's a little trigger that mounts under the control assembly between the cables. Very discrete!

I looked at the throttlemate website. While the vista cruise operation is very evident I did not see exactly how the throttlemate actually works. Just exactly how does it work ?

It screws into a pre-existing threaded hole between the 2 cables, once again you need to find the sweet spot. When you press the thumb tab forward, it closes the final gap between the pointed end of the screw and the throttle tube pulley giving you your throttle lock. Just like the other types of throttle lock, it's easily over powered by you if the throttle needs to be adjusted or closed.

I have been very happy with mine. I've had none of the problems you mentioned and have not had to adjust it since installing it several months ago.

To only thing I did differently than your installation is that I did not remove the ridge on the throttle sleeve. Instead, I beveled the ring on the Vista with a Dremel on one side (the outside edge) so it cleared the ridge. Don't know if that would make any difference, but I really like the Vista Cruise.
