There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Does anyone know how to tell, by using the VIN number, when a Spyder was built? Is there a VIN code that differentiates between SM and SE models?

Reading right to left, on mine, it's the first number after the "V" for year built.

How about the three-digit number before the V? I bought mine in December of 2008 and my number, before the V, is 179. I'm looking at another 2009 that has a 119 before the V. Just wondering if there is a way to narrow the build date down a bit, perhaps by month and year built.

The month and year should be printed in the upper right hand corner of the VIN sticker on the right side of the swing arm.

Just called dealer. Eight digits from the right, counting left is year built. Which is the first digit after the "V" on mine. Working on finding the other info if I can.

Interested

Yah I would like to see how the VIN number is broken down as well, there a lot of info in a VIN number.. Please keep us posted..

Thanks for the leg work on this one.

Checked mine and it shows 10/08. It must have been one of the first 09 SE5 models built, and that is probably why it had the bad GPS installed.

- 1st digit : represents the country in which it was made. 1 or 4 is for the U.S., 2 is for Canada, J is for Japan, K is for Korea etc.
- 2nd digit : represents the manufacturer. H is for Honda, K is for Kawasaki etc.
- 3rd digit : this position represents the vehicle type or manufacturing division which can vary by make of vehicle.
- 4th to 8th digits : these positions represent vehicle attributes such as body style and engine type (not to be confused with an engine code, every vehicle has one of those mounted on the engine).
- 9th digit : this is called a “check digit” and it exists for security reasons. This letter or number is derived mathematically depending on the previous 8 digits. It’s used to confirm that a VIN isn’t being fabricated.
- 10th digit : The vehicle year: 8 for 2008, 9 for 2009, A for 2010.
- 11th digit : Assembly plant
- 12th to 17th digits : These numbers increase by one for each unit that rolls off the assembly line, the last four are always digits. :read:

Thanks for your input. Great info.

Thanks, all. As Dudley said, this is some good info. I could see the month and year on the swing arm as Scotty said, as well.

GREAT JOB

Outstanding work here... This is very good information.. I am going to check mine out right now.. Thanks for doing the work to figure this out.

My Vin Number

K here is my complete VIN Number:

2BXJAWA148V003911

Best I can tell is that it was made in Canada-----The 2nd Number is a B, I am thinking BRP (Not sure)------------The rest I can not figure out except the 8 and that is 2008-----------and the number that it came off the assembly plant 003911---------and that was 9/2008,, Late year model for sure..
Again, this is good stuff..

The additional piece of critical information on the VIN sticker is the model. This is shown immediately after the serial number. BRP lists vehicles subject to a service bulletin my model, then serial number. I just had to go look it up for the dealer so we could follow up on a warranty item. You might want to jot it down for future reference. When you buy the Spyder, they just talk about SM5 and SE5 models, but the actual model designation is more complex. Premier Edition US model, PE Euro models, non-PE US, etc. The designation will be something like A18G, that's a US PE Spyder.

That's interesting. Ours was built 10/08 as an '08 SE5 but the sequence / serial number is lower than yours. Obviously they serialize each variant instead of the entire run.

2BXJACA118V002665 with a 10/08 build date.

BTW, the month of the build is not encoded in the VIN, that's always additional info on the VIN label.

That's correct, they appear to serialize by model designation.
