There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Very Interesting Ride

Very interesting ride

To say the least I had a very interesting ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway today wanted to see how
my new handlebars would do on some of the more challenging twisting turns on the back roads
around the Blue Ridge Parkway. What I can say basically is very impressed I feel I can thread
a needle with the Spyder now better than ever. The new position of the handlebars gives me better
control more comfortable ride and more precise turning in the tightest turns.

I live about 30 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway I decided to take my Spyder up there today
to test ride and see what it does. I had a couple interesting very close calls.

I was coming down to the Shenandoah Parkway after about a couple hours of riding and needed
some gas so I decided to go to Buena Vista which is really only about 5 miles off the Parkway on
Highway 60. There was very little non--traffic in the opposite direction which gave me the feeling
that there was open road ahead I was about halfway down the mountain when I noticed what
looked like a red flare in the ditch for whatever reason it didn't register of danger ahead.

About two turns later I found out why, I was cruising pretty fast push the turns to the max going
downhill when I came to a rather sharp curve about halfway through it standing in the middle of the
road in front of the state police Virginia Highway Patrol car was a state police officer. :yikes:I knew I was
going to slam into the back of the state police car the police officer jumped out of the road because
he knew what was going to happen.I slammed on the brakes so hard I think I bent the brake pedal,
the antilock brakes kicked in which is a weird feeling on a motorcycle I knew I was going to run out
of room so at the last minute I went into the other lane hoping nothing was coming in the other direction.

Luckily there wasn't, I went around the curve I saw a fire truck and a rescue squad truck in front of
the state police car at this time I was in control and able to slow down what I saw in a ravine was a
silver touring bike at the bottom on its side I couldn't tell you what kind it was for sure I was going to
stop but the glares that I got told me that might be a bad idea.

When I fueled up I bumped into a local person that was on the fire department and told him what I
saw he explained that this year for whatever reason there have been a lot of people crashing their
bikes coming down from the Blue Ridge Parkway mostly crotch rockets and touring bikes. He even knew
where and what curve it was at.

I fueled up headed back up 60 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, they cleared the wreck away by the time
I got back I headed south towards 501 to boonboro I hadn't been on the Parkway no more than 10 miles
when I noticed the car in front of me on a straightaway slammed on brakes I couldn't see why but it
look like smoke I didn't realize what it was until I was almost in the middle of it. It turned out to be a
swarm of honeybees I ducked my head and ran through them and it sounded like I was being hit
by buckshot. I had bees all over me I pulled over 100 yards farther down the road and started pulling
off my clothes I had a couple bees inside my shirt luckily none stung me. I'm also allergic and
I should've had my EpiPen with me which was my foolish mistake. I've already been to the emergency room once this year for something that stung me in the barn and swelled me up like a balloon in a few minutes.

So after all this I thought bad things come in threes so I decided not to find out what number three
was count my blessings and push home on the GPS. Thankfully the ride home was uneventful and the reason why it took this ride turned out to be pretty good on the new handlebar and center cover.

:yikes:

Man what a ride Bro. I've done the bee thing before and it took days to get all the honey and bee goo out of everything. Glad you made it home safe. Sound like the odds were against you today.

I stayed home and changed a rear tire on the Spyder and changed my oil along with changing my rear fender pan. I want to ride but this was stuff that needed to get done. :doorag:

You win.

Very interesting ride
... Thankfully the ride home was uneventful

Geez, Nexus, I just got home from a quick 15 hour-round-trip ride to Rochester NY from Massachusetts (6 hours out, 7 hours back--go figure) but all I had was a dead deer on the road...Oh, yeah--And it was hot.

So, I guess you win the story telling contest!!

(Seriously, the Spyder performed handsomely. The teeniest amount of sputtering from the micron after 14 1/2 hours, I still love the highway peg brackets more each mile, and the F1 saved my sanity when I was zipping along past tandem trailers.)

Glad you survived all that craziness to tell the tale... nojoke

Changing rear tire

For Lamonster - How much of a horror story was it to change out the rear tire? Also what tire did you use?
