UV sanitizers???

Anybody have any experience with the UV air sanitizers? I bought a room type the other day. It has the HEPA filter, and a UV-C bulb. When I tried it in the room where our parrot is, the odors were gone within about 10 minutes. I'm thinking of getting the type that install into the HVAC system, but I'm not really sure...

Has anybody used these type of germ killers? Do they really work? Are they just gimmicks? I see similar units at dentist offices and such, but wondering if the "home versions" are effective or not...

They are used extensively in pharmaceutical/food processing plants. I had an estimate a few years ago to have the HVAC ducts cleaned in my house. The company gave me an estimate of $4,895.00. This included installing one of those units. After I got up off the floor I asked how much just to clean the ducts. That was $1500.00. Never did get them cleaned.
