• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Upgrading the sway bar but not the end links.

Would it be considered not safe to upgrade the stock sway bar and not the end links? Just wondering what more experienced riders think of this option.

I guess I would ask my self, why not do the links at the same time. My stock links where nylon or plastic or some combination, the new links with the Baja Ron sway bar are aluminum and much stronger. I almost think they come with the new sway bar anyways. I could be wrong.

Unsafe ?? Potentially yes.
The upgraded swaybar works better because it is stiffer resisting bending moment more effectively.
By resisting the bending moment, it transmits more energy to the opposite side of the frame in order to keep the frame more level around turns.
This additional energy is transmitted to the frame through the links.
So, in short, the beefier swaybar stresses the links more than the stock bar.
Is that enough to cause a failure ?? All I can say is that the links have shown themselves to be a weak point even with the stock bar.
There have been several reported incidents where the bike goes into uncontrollable body roll when the link breaks during a turn.
To my knowledge, no one has reported crashing, but they all report getting a stain in their shorts.
You could even make a case for replacing the links even with the stock swaybar.
So, is it unsafe not to replace the links?? Maybe. Is it stupid ?? YES.

the 2012 and earlier do not needed their links changed. I added the bar to my 2012 and it works great without the links being changed.

UPGRADED LINKS

I think you should read everything on Ron's site ...... I don't think you have a choice ... I'm sure you have to buy the links with 14 and up Spyders ......of course this may not apply to you , but no one knows what Spyder you own ....it's not even in your Profile ....... Mike

Which bike do you have?
It makes a difference: the 998 bikes didn't seem to have problems with snapping those links when Ron's bar was added...
But there definitely were reports of the the 1330s doing it! nojoke

Just for Peace of Mind: switch them out!

if you are sweating the 20 bucks or whatever, news flash... feeding and maintaining a Spyder is not cheap.
NOT running the upgrade on the links, is foolish economy. Just my opinion

If you have a 12 or older then the links are optional, but of you prefer billet aluminum over plastic then spend the extra $69. If your RT is a 13 or newer, Ron will not sell you a bar without them.

Gotta ask...

Why run the risk. There were some faulty/weaker one that failed then others are fine. If you ryde aggressively by all means but if you drive speed limit passive and you can get the bar without the hiem joints give it a whirl..:dontknow: must be a reason Rod added them to the bar....

Plastic suspension components?????

Haven't seen much in the way of plastic suspension components on cars or bikes till the :spyder2:'s bar end links. I know composites can be very strong and some metal are like compressed wet sand ( John Britton) but I want METAL.

Broken suspension parts will cause=========== Kaos

Our 1998 Mercury Sable had plastic sway bar links but I want metal on the Spyder.

We have seen the plastic links snap on STOCK sway bars. We will not install the upgraded bars without new billet end links. We do not consider our customer's safety an 'option'.
