U-Haul 6X12 Trailer with 4'9" Ramp

I am going on a trip and would like to tow my 2011 Spyder RT. I found the above trailer available fm U Haul with a 4'9 ramp width. Has anyone had any experience with loading and transporting an RT using this trailer? This is all I could find on short notice. Will it work, also considering the very low clearance under the Spyder nose.

Thx...dave

4'9" seems a bit narrow for an RT. Measure your front wheels from outside of tires to one another.

this question has been asked many times and the consensus has always been that a 7 by 12 was necessary to haul the spyder..

The U-Haul is not going to work due to the front tire width. I went with a trailer sold at Lowes and Home Depot @ $600.00. Had to modify the deck to lift the front wheels to clear the side rails. The trailer has good towing and capacity.small trailer.jpgsmall trailer 2.jpg

Sorry, will NOT work for the RT, will work for the RS - you will scrape on the deck entry too - with either bike.

Unless you're able to lift up the front end of the trailer, i.e., jack up the front end while the trailer is hooked to vehicle. This will decrease the tailgate angle and you MAY be able to get the spyder on without the nose hitting.

However, as was stated by earlier replies, that width is too narrow.

Trailer not wide enough

The RT is 62 inches wide and the ramp is 57 inches wide that's a problem. Ramp angle is not a big deal just use a couple 4 foot planks as lead ramps for the front wheels.

7 BY 12 Is what you need, But why don't you just go down to the U Haul dealer and give it a try.:dontknow:

The width of an RT is 62" (5' 2"). You will need a couple more inches clearance on each side of the ramp. Look for something with at least a 66" (5.5') clear width. Even then, you will want to protect the edges when you load. Corrugated cardboard placed over the door/fender openings while loading works well for protection.

We are looking at buying a trailer also for the long trips since I cannot ride for great lenghts of time. Is there a trailer that is made specifically to fit the RT? Thanks to everyone for the info as we were looking at the u-haul trailers also.

I have a 6x12 dove tail open trailer and it loads good and pulls great, I have a Kia Sorrento, I took it to Maggie Valley, Look around, I paid under $1,000.00.
