Two wheel syndrome

Well I had a mild case of two wheel syndrome for the past month or so and while at Myrtle Beah for bike week the terrible disease run amuck. I have been looking hard at 2 wheelers for a while even though I liked the spyder I had a lot of problems. Anyone who knows me knows I have terrible luck. Example is 2 rocks in 2 belts in a month. After checking with other Spyder owners I found that the overwelming engine vibration and dangerous shimming in the bars at 60mph ws not normal. I just ended up with a bad one or maybee wanting 2 wheels magnified my little problems . Either way in a casual conversation with a Big Dog dealer while in Myrtle beach I ended up trading the Spyder for a 2008 Yamaha Raider 1900. SO far I love it. Miss the storage and secure feeling of the spyder but do not regret the desision so far.

The biggest prolem with the trade is there is no other sites out there like this one. I have looked forever and not found anything even close. I am going to miss the Spyder owners more than the Spyder.

Well, nothing says you have to leave us forever. Keep lurking here and offer some timely insights about when you 'used to' own a Spyder. :D

Take care bro.

Sorry to hear that you could not resolve your Spyder issues/problems with dealer/BRP.

Sounds like something was out of wack with this Spyder: balance of tires/wheels, engine mounting to frame, etc. Maybe fixable/maybe not.

I can identify with your two wheel syndrome. There is a different thrill/fun factor on two wheels versus three. I still ride two wheeler and am a big Yamaha fan (FZ1 owner). Certainly the many years of design experience has made the production quality of motorcycles built in Japan hard to beat.

Once a family member always a family member (Spyder owner or not) - design for production quality will improve over the years and draw you back to the fold. You may even become a double dipper like me: Spyder and Yamaha family member, like having dual citizenships.

Best wishes and welcome to the Yamaha family.

Tis a shame that your dealer and BRP allowed your problems to extend to the point of total dissatisfaction.

I believe, had BRP become aware of your extensive problems, that I think you would have recourse under the lemon law to resolve those issues, or replacement.

Sorry you let your :spyder: go... but all things must be addressed to be happy. Stay in touch, I for one, enjoy all the conversation here.

The Raider is a great bike. Besides my Spyder I also have a Raider S in red with the ghost flames. Not one bit of trouble with it. You made a wise choice. I enjoy the Spyder mostly for 2 up riding with the wife. Otherwise the feeling of a 2 wheel ride can't be beat. There are a few Raider Forums that I frequent. The people there are very cordial and advise flows freely. Email me if you want the web addresses.

I see where the Raider write-up points out, if you what to ride and not have to wrench this is your bike. This has been true with my 2003 Yamaha FZ1, simple changing of fluids/filter, clean/lube chain, air in tires and that has been it.

Great chopper look, enjoy.

:agree:If possible, being a two and a three wheeler, for me, is the best of both worlds. Just hope I don't get confused and forget to put my feet down when doing the two wheel ride:joke:.

To cisaacs: Sorry about your bad experince; the first demo ryde I tried was so bad I was just praying I'd make it back to the dealer's lot in one piece. Luckily, I found a different demo at another dealer and it was like night and day. If you get bitten again ;), you'll have to find one set up right and you'll not want to give it back. I'm promising my two wheelers that I'll get back to them soon (maybe split a day with them and the :spyder:) but for right now my face hurts at the end of the day from smiling so much from that Spyder ride and it just keeps getting better as my skills and confidence with it build.

Sorry to hear about the problems you had with your:spyder:. We have been very lucky with our Spyder, very little has gone wrong. The big difference that I'm seeing is the dealer network. There doesn't seem to be any continuity between dealers. Our dealer, Nord-Ride in Michigan, has always been on top of any issues and very helpful in resovling problems. I think this an area that BRP needs to look at. Having said that, I agree, once a Spyderlover always a Spyderlover. So keep checking in from time to time. Both Joan(Spyderrider810) and I have the same feeling regarding two wheels. She has a Honda Rebel, Buell Blast plus the :spyder:. My ride besides the Spyder is a Victory Vision, that I enjoy immensely. But, the Spyder is still a fun ride, but give me my two wheeler.
Take care and stay in touch with Spyderlovers
Bob

I miss the storage space of the spyder as well as the reverse when in tight spots but so far I love the Raider. Being a new rider when I got the Spyder and now changing to the Raider has caused so transition problems such as front brake. I have been making myself ride with my fingers lating on the front brake to remind me it is there. I put 200 miles on it sunday and loved every minute of it. I think one of my problems with the spyder as far as service goes is I had to take it 2 hours away to the closest dealer that I would trust and with fu prices as they are it would cost each time it needed repairs. My problems was actually minor and could of been figured out easily but I guess I just wanted 2 wheels. I hada call yesterday from someone looking at the spyder where I traded it asking questions and they felt the same list problems I was experiencing. She said it shook at 60mph and seemed to have a lot of vibration from the engine on acceleration and was wondering if that was normal. I informed her everyone else loves the other spyders and it was just this one having trouble.

Two wheel syndrone...

Hey, cisaacs, did you know there is a Platinum BRP dealer in Elizabethton?
That is only 15 min. from you. They have been carrying :spyder:since April.
I also heard yesterday that the dealer you traded your:spyder:to is asking
$17K for it.
Sorry you had a bad experience, everyone else seem to love them. I am longing for a red SE5. Good luck with your new bike.
BTW I am in Kingsport.
:D

I suffer from the same affliction but I love my Spyder too much to give it up. Everyone should have 5 motorcycles. My current desire is a light cafe racer or street fighter that I can throw around corners and wheelie for miles. Riding the dragon really left me longing for something more agile.

My Spyder is my touring bike. It's comfortable, safe, reliable and still a hell of a lot of fun. I'm sorry your experience was negative but I agree it's no reason to abandon the best bike forums around. Your input is no less valuable as a former owner.

while i have only felt the excitment of riding a spyder on the demo rides i have made as i still wait for mine to get here. I am sorry to hear of the problems you incurred and I certainly understand the distance between me and a dealer while there is one only 30 mins away he is one i dislike and do not trust so I choose to buy 4 hours away. and there is nothing like the the two wheel syndrome I have promised myself the shadow will continue to be pulled out of the garage after the spyder gets here but from the demo rides I have taken on the spyder there is also a reason they say that freedom on the road is spelled THREEDOM. my best wishes to you and your Raider I have several friends that swear by them...but as many has said here once a brother always a brother so please stay in touch with the board and give us updates on the Raiser after all 2 wheel 3 wheel doesnt matter it is about the ride.....

I know to much about the Dealer 15 minutes away which is why I always took it to Knoxville for repairs. News travels fast in a small town like this.

cisaacs, follow up question...

So, i gather you would not trust those guys near you?
I ask so I do not get involved with the wrong dealer. If it means
going to Knoxville for the better support, then that is what I would
rather do. I don't, and I suppose most folks don't either, like dealing with
a dealer that after your check clears, they would sooner never see you again.
Thanks.
