Trip To PA

The wife & I rode the RT w/trailer out to PA on Monday to visit our daughter. Spent 2 nights, took my daughter for her first ride on the :ani29:. She loved it!! A mix of towns, twisties, and highway riding. Came home on Wednesday. Averaged 29 mpg w/trailer for the trip. Bike ran flawlessly. Cruise set at 75 on I-80. 2013-9 update has made a world of difference. Have a trip planned for Memorial Day weekend & SpyderQuest in September. Spring is here & life is good!!

Great news..!!

glad you shared your great trip news with us. Sounds like you are in full swing with the weather a changing..enjoy and be safe..!!:ohyea:

Glad you had a great and safe time.

Any idea of the road conditions on RT 84 in PA this year?

Rt 84, East and West bound is a disaster from the N.Y. State line to exit 34.:yikes: That's the Lords Valley exit. Mostly one lane transferring back and forth from one side to the other. W/B going up steep grades has become a convoy of trucks and cars. NO passing! E/B can get messy also. Accidents, and they are big ones, happen weekly. If you are lucky, and can miss the heavy traffic hours, it is not too bad. Beyond this area W/B the road can be real nasty(swiss cheese) at times. PA. has the worst roads in the USA! nojokeThe most deficient rated bridges also! nojoke I travel these roads every day. Lucky me. :banghead: Rt 6 is a nice road to travel if you can. But there is a lot of construction in the Milford, Mattamoras areas. BTW, this mess W/B(one lane) starts in N.Y. just before the Port Jervis exit.;) Tom :trike:

:agree: 84 is rough...

What routes did you hit on your trip?

I-95 (which I HATE :yikes:) in CT & NY, I-287 across Tappan Zee Bridge into NJ, I-287 to I-80 in NJ, got off I-80 just before the Delaware Water Gap, crossed Portland-Columbia Bridge into PA, then all local roads to East Bangor, PA. Lots of highway riding with the cruise control - keeps my right wrist from cramping up. Great weather, great tunes on the iPod, and a great woman :bowdown:on the "Queen's Throne" behind me.

I drive 84 every night from PA to CT. The road in PA is a mess westbound. They have just started construction from the NY line west to Millford PA with single lane up the mountain. Might want to jump on US 6 if going that way.

Have you considered taking 209 down below Milford to get around the mess? You can pick up 84 pretty near anywhere along there...

Bob, we call 209, "the slow road". It's a nice relaxed, but slow ride. NPS( National Park Police) don't care for speeders. :lecturef_smilie: Most of the road is 35-45 mph. Tom :trike:

Sounds like I need a new route for my twice yearly Gettysburg trip. I do not want 95 in ANY shape or form.

I know;

What do I need to be in a hurry for? :dontknow:

:D

I'm picking up my 2014 Limited at Pit Bull this Thursday. My wife and I are planning a Spyder trip in July from Omaha, NE to Philadelphia, then to Cape May, down to Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach and a leisure ride back through the middle of the country to Omaha. Planning for a 3 week trip. Excited but nervous at the same time.

A trip to Philly? :2thumbs:
When you get into the Historic Section of Town; Please check out Elfert's Alley; the oldest continuously inhabited street in the United States!
Of course; there's always Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell...

A really nice ride is the Garden State Parkway (you can pull a trailer if you have one) down to Cape May. Take the Atlantic City Expressway the the Garden State South (there are tolls, but you can pay cash if you don't have an EZ Pass) to Cape May, then take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry across Delaware Bay. Motorcycles go on first & come off first. Relax & have a beer on the ferry. Then, take Rt. 1 South through Delaware to Ocean City Maryland. Then take Rt 50 West in Ocean City to Rt 113 South. This merges with Rt 13 close to the Virginia border. Rt 13 goes all the way down the peninsula, and will take you to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel which takes you into Virginia Beach. Not a fast ride, but very scenic & beautiful. Keep your eyes open on Rt 1 in Delaware along the beach for the concrete towers on the beach. These were observation towers during WW2, and many remain today. Have fun & be safe!

Thanks - we won't do much in Philly, since we are originally from there. Moved out west (Omaha) in 1990. Our families are still in the Philly, Levittown, Valley Forge area, so we always stop by to see them when we come back. First time riding the Spyder for the whole trip though.;)
