• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trip planning

I am trying to plan a trip from Illinois to the Blue Ridge Parkway and back all back roads. And I am having trouble finding a map program to help? They all want to use the interstates and quickest routes! I want scenic routes

I use a program called Tyre.
It's quite easy to use.
The trick to getting the route you want is to add waypoints along the route, ie, just after turns to different highways along your preferred route.
Just right click the mouse pointer on the road you want to turn on and a prompt will come up "add waypoint" click that and go to next turn off & repeat.
You don't have to do it for every turn off, just enough to manipulate your route to your liking.
If you add a waypoint you don't want just click it and hit delete.
Play with it a bit and it won't take long to get the hang of it.
After you have a route you like, name & save it, plug your GPS into your computer (software works on Garmin or Tom Tom), top of the page you'll see "File" "Waypoint" and then either Garmin or Tom Tom which ever unit you are using, click that and then click send to GPS.

Here's the link to get the software, the free version is all you need.

There's lots of YouTube videos out there as well, just search tyre to travel...

I use Basecamp by Garmin. Some folks curse it, but it has done well by me and there are presentations online that do a good basic tutorial for using it. Not sure if it is Apple friendly, I would assume so but no guarantees.
