Trailer Wiring Question

I have a quick question about the Can-Am Bike wiring. Is the connector a 4 prong or 5 prong connector? Reason I ask is because I have a Escapade Bike trailer that has a 4 prong and want to make it a 5 prong to add cargo lights to the inside. Thanks, Kent.

Depends..!

my understanding is there are several types depending on years and models. There are conversion harnesses you can get as well. You could just pull power from the running lights to an on/off switch.

or you could go to Wiredux's page (Spyderlover Sponsor) and get his self contained trailer lights that work whether or not your trailer is hooked up to your bike.

My thought/plan is to use a 5 wire plug on both the bike and trailer and use the extra wire to power the cargo light. Any thoughts on this?
Kent.

the 5th wire would be direct power to run lighting ect inside the trailer..
you should good on this setup..

The wiring harness for the Spyder will be a square 4 prong plug. I assume your trailer is a flat 4. So 1 will have to change or an adapter made anyway.

Yes you can run a 5th wire for power to your trailer for a cargo light. That seems like a lot of trouble for a light that works only when the trailer is hooked to the Spyder. It would be cheaper and easier just to tap into the tail light circuit. That is what almost all trailer manufactures do for cargo lighting.

Or you could just use one of the inexpensive LED stick on lamps. The batteries in them last for ever.

I had an issue last summer, where I borrowed a trailer that had a flat 4 pin connector. The kit I had installed for the trailer had a 4 pin square connector. I found this conversion kit .... Hopkins 47975 (4 sq) to Hopkins 48025 (4 flat). Worked fine.

We bought a used Escapade trailer that we are refurbishing, it has a 4 pole round plug. I am planing on using a 5 pole flat plug for both the bike and trailer.
