Get that trailer done and give me a shout. We will get it wired up for ya. The pig you want is 710002029 tongue harness. It is listed as a 2010 part, but I have used it on several RTs 2010 and 2011. We are going to have to cut, splice and solder anyway. Just lemme know if you want some help wiring it up. I'll ride over and do it and we can grab a bite at East meets West. I know you like Sushi......,,

It sounds like you want to do this without the BRP trailer connector or hitch? In that case use a 5-wire LED lighting system on your trailer and wire a standard flat-5 from automotive department at many stores. You will have to find a place to feed out the connector. BRP uses a bulkhead connector for that reason. If you have the BRP connector/module, you need the trailer wired for 4-wire, and yoy will need to build an adapter from a tongue harness or pole harness, as previously described.

I think You may or may not need a four wire on the 2011 Scotty, if using the BRP hitch and module. They changed at some point during the 2011 model year. I've done 2011s that were a five wire and some that were a four wire. The later ones were four. Just not sure where the cutover is. The only way I know to find out for sure is to use a test light on the module.

You can buy everything you need to put a plug right on the wire from your trailer that will plug right into your spyder. I have bought two from Ladd Industries. They have the plug, strain relief and pins to put on the wires to snap into the plug. The whole thing with shipping should be about $50 or less I think. I was able to figure out the wiring with a meter and if I can do it so can you. :) If you have any questions get in touch with me.

If there is no trailer module installed on the Spyder, you have to match the Spyder system with your pigtail installation, or use a 5-4 coverter. That may not work since they often don't like LED systems or ones that are electronically switched or relayed. It sounds like the OP wants to make or install his own pigtail, not the BRP harness.

If there is a harness/module installed on the Spyder, it will depend on the year of the module, not the year of the Spyder. There are actually three variations...4-wire, 5+-wire, and a combination. It is best to test the output to be sure.

Scotty... Would the five wire be the same as a five function led light set??

I had wondered about that and it does make sense that they changed the config of the module rather than the Spyder itself. I just knew that something was different. The non-BRP trailers that I have done all had the BRP hitch and accompanying harness. And while two of them were purchased at nearly the same time, I suspect that one unit was older, thus the difference. And I agree testing is the only way I see to be certain since there may still be some older hitch/harness inventory being sold. I'll check with KentuckyGuy. I assumed he was building his own trailer, but that he would be using the BRP hitch and harness.

No I am not useing the BRP hitch/harness.. I have bought the hitch that I had asked about in another thread.. Here is the hitch that I bought... http://www.ebay.com/itm/330559300639?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Aha. Well there you have it. I didn't see your other thread about the hitch. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how Scotty derived from this post that it wasn't the BRP hitch. I read the darn thing and re-read it. I had just about come to the conclusion that Scotty was not only a bike prof, but some sort of mind reading wizard to boot. ;)

My offer still stands. But you have to eat some sushi with me.

Oh lord.....

Scotty... Would the five wire be the same as a five function led light set??

It doesn't appear that way. I'm not familiar with those, but the ones I looked up had a back-up light as their fifth function. They are not specific as to how they are wired. You would have to look at the instructions and the wiring connector. Basically, 4-wire is a trailer without separate turn signals and brake lights. The same bulb serves for both turn and brake functions. Most US autos are this way. A 5-wire system will will have separate brake lights and turn signals. The Spyder has that type of system. You can wire for either type of system, but a 4-wire trailer will need a converter module to change the output from 5-wire to 4-wire. Hopkins makes one that has been used on the RS, but it may not be compatible with the RT's LEDs. That's why the easiest thing would be 5-wire.

4-wire Trailer Wiring
Running
Right turn/Brake
Left turn/Brake
Ground

5-wire Trailer Wiring
Running
Right Turn
Left Turn
Brake
Ground

As far as I know It is ready for some wireing before the floor gets put on it..

Trailer lighting is seldom offered as a kit, except for temporary towing lights. ?????

A good trailer shop can equip and wire your trailer any way you want it. They could also install/test a 5-4 converter if you took off your body panels for them.

Looks like the easy thing to do is add an extra wire in the loom an make it the ground with its own connection to the bike.. Problem solved....

If you don't understand wiring in general, and trailer wiring in particular, this is no place for guesswork and on the job training. Improper wiring can disable your Spyder. I have never seen any lights that didn't have ground wires, so adding a new ground wire run to the Spyder, while necessary, is not the answer. The exception would be if you have already wired the grounds (usually black) on your lights to the trailer chassis...that will have to be changed. They would have to be connected to a ground wire which runs to the trailer connector, and connects to a corresponding ground pin on the Spyder connector. BTW, trailer wiring is usually color coded and sequenced in a certain order in the connectors. If you are unfamiliar with all this, get some instructions or some knowledgeable help...or visit a trailer shop.
