Trailer for my Spyder

I'm considering adding a trailer to my 2014 RT-S. I believe that you must use the Can-Am trailer hitch unit on the Spyder so not to void the warranty. Is it necessary to also only pull a Can-Am trailer (RT622 or Freedom) so you don't void the Spyder warranty? I know we have at least on sponsor on Spyderlovers that sells trailers (non-Can-Am).:dontknow:

BRP could only void your warranty for pulling a trailer, BRP made or not, if they could prove you exceeded trailer load or tongue weight requirements. They can't void you for pulling someone else's trailer.

The hitch is different, because it connects directly to the bike, and is designed to transfer load to the frame per their design specs.

The use of, or towing of, non-BRP products will not void the warranty. However, IF they can show that a warranty claim is based on a failure that is the direct result of having used a non-BRP part, they can deny the claim. That would be virtually impossible to prove as far as the trailer is concerned unless you exceed their specified loads, but that would be the case even with a BRP trailer. As far as the hitch they say it's the only hitch that MAINTAINS full vehicle warranty. They have no choice. It's their product mounted on their product. That is not the same as saying that using a non-BRP hitch will void the warranty, and that they do not and cannot say. But if they can show where a design feature of a non-BRP trailer hitch, as compared to a BRP hitch, caused something like premature wheel bearing failure, they would be justified in denying a warranty claim for that failure. But that really is, IMO, a high hurdle to jump over.

Now, if the cost of the hitch is of secondary concern, ease of installation and the inclusion of the wiring harness in the kit makes using the BRP hitch attractive. Thanks for the input guys. I looked again at the Can-Am site and this is the way they state the warranty issue in respect to trailering with a Spyder: "The only trailer that maintains the vehicle factory warranty." I guess that can be interpreted in several ways.
