There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. total mileage on a Spyder?

I just bought a 2012 Spyder RT-S with less than 6000 miles. I love it!! The wife is going to get her license in the spring, she loves it also.

The thing I would like to ask is, how many miles can we expect to get out of the Spyder? My bike other bike is a 2003 FJR 1300 with 37,000 miles. I have been on other websites and can see that, I will be able to get up to 100,000 miles before anything may go wrong.

So, how many miles can we expect to get out of the Spyder?

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I know of one " V-twin " that has 125,000 + and has been pretty trouble free ...Mike

There are a two or three known ones with over 100,000 miles on them. Quite a few now in the 50,000 to 75,000 mile category.

I have 130,000 total miles on five assorted. My best so far is 36,500 since I have traded up a few times. No major issues over five and 130,000.

sounds good so far. We are hoping to get at least 50,000 until we may have tyo do something to it.

Does anyone else have an amount of miles on their Spyders?

Spyderjockey is well over 115,000 miles now on his 2008 GS. :firstplace:
(It's been a while since I've spoken to him; I don't know his exact mileage...)

I have over 53000 miles but would be smart to have an extened warranty these are complicated machines mine has been a good bike with some fixing bit no cost to me. But I am mechanically inclined

Looks like you have a lot of riding to do.

:congrats: & enjoy! As with anything take care of it & it will last longer. First off you will want to get laser alignment & get all tires @right pressure. Talk with few tech's find out the troublesome things they've encountered on that year model so you can keep an eye out:rolleyes: Good luck

thank you for all of your posts. You are all making me feel a little better about buying this great machine! Yes, I know we have a lot of riding to do on this machine, and I can't wait. It also sounds to me like there has not been many problems with them. We are going to get a new sway bar and put it on this spring. Then the good and, maybe long rides will start. I thank you again for your help and, if there is anything I should know about the bike, please let me know.

The drivetrain is pretty much bulletproof. The weak link with these machines seem to be quirky electronics and add on gizmos.

the electronics? I only have the stock things on the bike and, the only thing we plan on doing is LED,s. What should we watch for?

Don't worry about that as the 12's are very solid. If any issue does appear the Spyder center screen will display it.
The twin (your motor) likes to be run in the upper rev range and I found mine to like the 4500 to 5000 rpm the best.
Worry less and ride more. Good choice on the sway bar and as mentioned an laser alignment is the way to go.

 To your new adventures

No different than cars and nothing specific. Just think of it this way, the real high mileage machines are RS machines. The RS, especially the older ones are much more limited on the electronics and add one (cable control throttle bodies, monochrome display, manual suspension, no stereo, no cruise, no power window, etc etc) Compare that to a top of the line RT with all the add ons. (DBW, auto suspension, color screens, cruise, stereos, power windshield, etc etc).

I agree that the 12' is probably the most reliable year across the product line.
Enjoy, and ride safe!
