Tire question - wanna change my Ryde a little

Hi,

My back tire is due for replacement and I also want to put different front tires on (and take those fenders off). I want to make a few changes to my Spyder and since it's due for it's 12K service, might as well git er done.

I would like a new look, maybe gloss black panels but that is last on my list. Right now I want a different back tire and two new front tires. Can the front tires be the same brand as the back tire - I'm not saying same size - just SAME BRAND? I know others have swapped out there fronts for different ones. I want a beefier look up front.

I see that alot of people use BFGoodrich, Yokohama for the rear tire.

Any advice?

Nah, not gonna loose the rear fender - well maybe not? Not sure yet. I like the rear fender so the rain won't go up my back.

Talked w/ my dealer - he advised not doing fat tires in the front. He said bad idea because it could screw up the stability system. I know others have done it though but do I want to take that chance?:dontknow:

He suggested the Phamtom wheel kit. I can black out the wheels this way and take the front fenders off so it would look cool. I'd keep it that way for now to see how the Yellow goes with it and if I don't like that, I'll go to the gloss black panels. But it might look pretty cool blacked out. Maybe get the silver console painted black also. I'd like to get rid of as much silver as I can.

Only thing about the phantom wheels is they stick out kinda far, and get banged up pretty easy. I like the black chrome RT wheels better. I saw somewhere, more of a rounded motorcycle tire on the front that I thought looked cool w/out the fenders.

Do the black chrome for the RT fit the RS?

I am not sure about the interchangability between the RS & RT wheels. They are both 14x5 but I don't know the offset and lug spacing.

Lugs are the same. You may need to find a way to extend the wheel studs, unless the lugnuts are different. Offset is about 1/2" greater, as I recall. You will need to run fenderless or space out the fenders. It will change the front end geometry some...not sure of handling or steering consequences. I suspect the biggest issue would be increased tire wear. Someone did this and posted about it, but I couldn't find it with my rudimentary skills.

I went with BF Goodrich Potenza on the front & BF Goodrich G-Force on the back. I'm no expert but it feels more sticky in the corners now. My tire dealer told me the Potenza is a performance rated tire & to check out in Consumer Reports.

Thanks! I'm gonna keep this message so when I'm ready for the fronts I will get those. Did your dealer put them on? Do they look different than the stock ones, like do they look better?

I took the rims off then had them put the tires on the rims. Dealer wanted 260 bucks to take just the rear tire off & mount my tire!:yikes:
I also had the wheel weights removed & Ride-On installed.
They look good I think, especially the back.

I still have a complete set of panels from my 08-RS that I sell. Panels should be re-painted though.

The front wheels and fenders are exactly the same between old and new.

Wider tire on the back?

Whats the widest rear tire so far that anyone knows of that we can install without major mods?? I'm thinking traction.
Thanks
