There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Thinking of making the switch from the Goldwing!

Go for it Kias!! And don't look back. I've owned only 8 other rides since 1965. However, I have ridden many of my friends bikes (they wanted me to show them what their bikes could really do). Last year I had a chance to test ride an RT-S for a couple of hours and that did it. "Love at First Ryde". I now own a 2011 RT Limited and think the world of it. What is more important for me, my wife just loves it so much she's the one that wants us to take the Spyder more often than any of our cars. How lucky can a guy get? I'll tell you this Kias, I will never go back to two wheels. Good luck!

Deer dodging on just about everything

I live in upstate New York and have been dodging deer for most of my life. I used to have to do it everyday when I moved into town that was not needed . In most auto stores around here they have these deer whistles that I will swear by you can mount them on your ride what ever it is and it seems to work. I can not say 100% but for the most part they try and get away from the sound (to high a pitch for humans)

This morning's activities included 2 skunks, a opossum, 6 deer, and something that I'm pretty sure was a chupacobra, though I'm a bit too far north for that thing, so perhaps not. While the skunk and opossum I would probably roll right over with not much more than a bump, the deer and chupacobra looking thing would've been ugly had I connected with it. I'm not doubting that I'd get used to the foot brake, I'm doubting I could get used to it immediately. It's also not likely that I'd use my common sense and just leave the thing at home in the morning until I did get used to the foot brake. :ohyea:

$1400 to ISCI is a small price to pay for a peace of mind. I'm absolutely impressed with their setup, this only from the close up pictures and videos I've found of the system.
:bdh:
As far as the reliability issues compared to the Goldwing, it looks to be about the same. When the GL1800 first came out in 01 or 02, it had it's problems too. Welds in the frame that could crack, or collapse completely. Bank angle sensors that could fall off, making the engine shut off unexpectedly. Leaking brake systems. Lots of electrical and electronic problems. The people who have problems are always more vocal then people who don't have problems which always makes it sound worse than it really is. (Except for the people with the problem... It really is that bad!) I look for the manufacturer that's trying to fix their mistakes. It does look like they're doing that with the Spyder.

So going over the specs again, I've determined the seat is not heated. Any third party solutions to this other than Corbin? Not that I'd be against getting a Corbin, just looking at my options. Still trying to remember that original question I had... Must be my age.

Bought my GW 1500 in '95, bought Punkin' 11/01, triked it in 9/05. Rode it 61K. Love my Motor Trike. Bought BR1 in March of 2011. After crying at the first 100 miles, saying "oh gee" at 500 miles and starting to smile at 1,000 miles, I now have 4,800 on BR1 and really like the machine. The Wing is more powerful, but if you keep the rpm's up on BR1, he will run with the best of them. (okay, he won't run with the San Antonio Sport Bike group) The Wing audio is much better than the Spyder's. They are different rides and I like both. I am keeping my Wing too. Oh, gotta go to breakfast...what to ride? What to ride? I keep getting on BR1.

I ride solo, but if I were to travel, a trailer is the answer. Either for the Wing or Spyder.

Long trips, no problem but get the trailer

My wife and I completed a 4500 mile round trip a few weeks ago from East tennessee to Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Denver Colorodo, Dodge City Kansas just to name a few places. The Spyder RT S is the only way to travel. (I have 5 motorcycles in the garage that I seldom ride since getting the spyder back in June). One word of caution, If the wife goes with you on any trips you will need the factory trailer............for HER luggage!! The good news, the trailer is the best on the market, it pulls great and you will be looking in the mirrors to make sure it is still behind you. We ran 80-90 MPH at times and never a problem. (never mind the gas mileage at those speeds). I now have 7500 miles on the Spyder and I enjoy it more everyday. You will to. There is a learning curve tho, after about 1500 miles it all becomes second nature. The foot brake for me has never been a problem, sure I have reached for the hand brake out of habit (40 years on two wheelers) but I quickly learned to treat is like a car, hit the foot brake and you will stop. If you feel you need the hand brake, get it and enjoy the ride, as you said, small price to pay for peice of mind.

Personally I like having both the Spyder and the GSX1250FA. The FA is now my primary ride but I switch on a pretty regular basis to take a little pressure off both machines. I was going to get rid of the Spyder initially but after some thought I decided that I just can't do it! Phantom 14 has been a good mount and we have been through a lot together so I am attached to her; the machine just didn't have the stones to be a daily rider. But adding the FA to the stable is working out beautifully and I'm having a blast! I love the variety that having two unique platforms provides. I just do a mental check before I start the engine of whatever machine I'm on so that I'm in synch.

Oh, and when the weather gets bad, guess which machine I will be on? You guessed it! :spyder2:

I have an 1800 wing and two reverse trikes (non-spyder)

The wing has been the best bike I have ever owned - If asked I will give up the wing before the trikes. Trikes are more fun and can go anywhere on anything.
I certainly would do the trade from a wing to a spyder any day.

Any updates

Thank you everyone for your opinions!

Oh, and don't diss the Yugo! They JUST stopped making them in 2008. :yikes:

I just found out last night that my Mother just put a new Spyder RT in her garage! Can you say "Unlimited Test Rides??" :2thumbs: :ohyea:

Now if I can just get that fatherly figure guy to get rid of his Harley... That thing's in the shop more then any other bike I know! I tease him by telling him I found something wrong with my wing. When he asks what it is, I tell him I found dirty oil in it, and it required a complete change. Terrible, just terrible.

Thanks again! I'll definitely let you know what we decide!

Hi Kias, just wondered how you are doing in your decision making progress.......Spyder vs. Goldwing.......if I had a vote to help you with your decision, I guess you know what I would go for. Our Spyder has given us so much more fun than any of the 2 wheelers we have owned......just saying!!:clap::thumbup::ohyea::2thumbs::2excited::firstplace: I guess that is enough of the Icon stuff!! One more!:roflblack:
