• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Thinking about purchase of Garmin Zumo

I'm thinking of adding a Garmin Zumo GPS to my RT-S. My question is about screen glare. Can you see the screen on sunny days? :dontknow:

Sometimes the sun can be a problem . . . but there are aftermarket sun shades for them . . and I listen to mine through Bluetooth, rather than trying to watch it.

Sun shades are available but they don't offer a lot of help. When the sun is anywhere between 1 and 4 o'clock behind or in front of you there isn't much that is going to help. Sometimes where the sun is off to the side the shade helps but honestly they really aren't worth the money.

You can see it JUST about as good as you can see the LED screen on your cell phone. In other words no. Yes there are shades and other devices that claim to help (I even have one), but those claims are as full of #$!@$ as last years bird's nest.

The sun is a little bit of an issue, but I would not let that stop you from buying one. I bought a Zumo this summer and would do it again if I needed to.

I added the Garmin to my RT-S and am pleased with it. Glare really hasn't been an issue but I asked for and got the hood as a Christmas present. Haven't had the occasion to use it yet but I suspect that it will help. Overall I'm a happy camper and recommend the Zumo. :2thumbs:

There are a lot more current Garmin GPS units out there that can be bought for 1/3 the price of a Garmin Zumo 660....

They may not be stamped "Motorcycle friendly" or "waterproof" but they are actually better in terms of features & operation and a small zip-lock baggie can take care of the rain! Sure wish I had sold the Zumo the first week I had my 2012 Ltd...

Love my Zumo

I have a zumo and a garmin 765T and there is no comparison in the visibility and glare control. There is also no comparison in the glare control with my cell phone. You have virtually unlimited ride planning. Mine is 4 years old it has been a model in reliability. I use the cheapie in my cage but my zumo goes on the spyder. I know there are cheaper alternatives just as there are cheaper alternatives to the spyder. Plus I get to use my baggies for my sandwich.

I'm happy with my Zumo 665.
I've had it replaced three times by Garmin because of failures, but each time Garmin has stepped up to the plate and replaced it under warranty.
As to the glare issue, it is sometimes a problem, but no more so than glare is an issue with glare in any vehicle.
I've never had any glare problems with the Zumo worthy of talking about.

My Zumo 660 gets me home. I've been know to go down back roads in West Virginia, just to see where they lead, and after a few hours of this, have no idea where I am! That is when the Zumo has the "take me home" button pressed! Do I need a Garmin? No . . . but it sure makes life easier! Same goes for the ability to find the nearest gas station . . . very nice feature!

When I drove my ST Limited home from the dealer, the glare was awful on the Garmin 660. The mounting bracket is adjustable and I loosened the adjustment screws and tipped it up as high as possible but still comfortable to see. I really don't have a issue with glare at all since then.

We were in your state last summer for vacation and thankfully I had the Zumo because you can really get turned around out on those back roads.:)
