The very first Spyder owner was ...

We all probably got the email from BRP the other day advertising their 10th Anniversary Homecoming. I didn't know Jay Leno owned the first one. You guys who've had Spyders from earlier on, most likely did, but for the rest of us newbies, here's what was in the email:

"After nearly ten years in the making, BRP unveiled the Can-Am Spyder in San Diego, CA, in early February 2007. Dealers and media from all over the world were in attendance - nearly 1,000 people in total - all there to witness the release of something new and incredible from BRP.

The official unveiling took place at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California, where BRP's president and CEO, Jose Boisjoli, and entertainer, Jay Leno, rode Can-Am Spyder vehicles on stage, much to the delight of the crowd. The next day was full of test rides, as people got to experience the Y-Factor for the first time.

After the launch, Can-Am dealers started taking deposits for the 2008 Premier Edition Can-Am Spyder. Once the production line started later that fall, Jay Leno became the proud owner of Spyder #001."

I seen the 10 min review Jay gave on the Spyder when it came out. That is probably why he got the first one. I won one of the Premier one's in 2008 from Quaker Steak & lube. Did not like the sport bike ride. Sold it. Never thought I would own a 15 RT-S. Totally a different breed. Love it.

Did not see one till 2012 and bought one...did however find out about number one shortly thereafter. Love my RS and sorry they dropped it...:banghead:

I got the first one sold to a customer in Alaska. June 2008. My dealer snarfed the very first for himself. Then we had a contest to see who could make theirs the prettiest. I won on farkles, and he won with paint schemes.

The Leno thing was to get the word out. Don't know how much it contributed to early sales. Then there was the great "CSI" reveal, Dannica Patrick, Rothlesberger, and the "Sturgis" reveal. It just don't get much better. :roflblack::roflblack:

Did my custom 08 and 09 have anything to do with the styling of the 2010 RT-S? I sometimes think maybe so. :dontknow:

BRP Marketing always seems a bit off to me. The people they pick and the interest they generate has never appealed to me personally. I would never buy a :ani29: because Jay, or Danica had one. PS--I don't believe either paid for them. There are a few here on SL that have invested heavily in the product because they actually liked them. Marketing should be aiming somewhere in between those perimeters. :thumbup:

There's also Billy Ray Cyrus. He also gave one to his daughter Mily Cyrus for her birthday. I saw Simon Cowel on a premier edition black RT. Just a photo of course.
