The Ultimate Spyder Ryder Adventure...

While reading BRP's new Magazine (WOW) I ran across what appears to be the ultimate Spyder adventure. Problem is, that it is the annual Spyder Grossglockner Challenge
in Austria...but before you let that discourage you, listen to the description:

"The 48 kilometers of panoramic road, involving 36 hair-raising hairpin bends, take the riders to within 1,200 meters of the summit with views across the Austrian Alps that are simply breathtaking.
Day One traditionally sees many riders take a tour of Gunskirchen’s state-of-the-art Rotax plant, birthplace and home to BRP’s Rotax engine manufacturing facility, the beating heart of all of BRP’s machines, apart from the Evinrude outboard engines. Then it is back to the tarmac for a 130 km looping tour of the region’s spectacular lakes and alpine terrain.
And so to Day Two and the main event, the 200 km tour of the Grossglockner and the chance to put the Spyders through their paces on some of Europe’s most challenging curves! The high alpine road, which snakes through fields of wild flowers and fragrant forests, leads to the very heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, home to the Grossglockner and the equally impressive Pasterze Glaciers, with dozens of nature trails to choose from en route, adding to the pure thrill and variety of the ride!"
"At that night’s Gala Dinner, riders eagerly recounted and shared their alpine experience and adventures. Oh yeah Bob...i'm with you. I'm doing the Tail of the Dragon this Spring. the Austrian trip sounds picturesque as well as a thrill...now the Tail of the Dragon will definitely satiate the adrenaline junkie in me!!!

Here is another alternate ryde if you don't want to go to Austria. The Hana Highway on Maui, Hawaii.

The Hana Highway is about 35 miles of twists and turns driving through rainforest, changing vegetation areas, beautiful ocean vistas, and many pull offs with high waterfalls cascading down. There are over 600 tight turns (one way) and 54 one lane bridges. If you run into traffic, you just have to slow down and take your turn with the others. It takes about 2-2 1/2 hours to go the 35 miles. I was in first gear most of the way--tried second gear a couple times, but had to shift down to first very quickly. Averaged about 15-20 mph when moving along. We drove the highway both ways, so did 1200 tight turns and 108 single lane bridges in one day.

Wow...A Spyder in Hawaii sounds like sheer heaven. Although I like speed, i think a place like that would lend itself to a leisurely pace. Added bonus...it's an island, so if u keep going straight you're boundto end up where ustarted!!!

I live only 30 minutes from the Dragon and it is motorcycle mecca from mid spring to late fall. I'm on it at least twice a month, not so much for the ride but to be with motorcycle people. Bikes of all types, people from all over. I love it.

For sightseeing the Hana Highway is great. I drove it in a car and it is exactly as you have described it. Riding at 15 mph behind a tourist driving a rental is no fun. I hated it. The Hana Highway does not compare to the Dragon - not even close.

Love the road to Hana, but there are Way too many very slow moving vehicles and not many places for them to turn out. My brother and I did. are it in about I hour an 15 minutes.......in a rental care with full "you mean I can drive this car off the cliff and I am fully covered" insurance. We picked up a hitchhiker from Ohio, who is still shaking in his boots. But that was 30 years ago. :roflblack::roflblack:

Twenty five miles per hour is driving the Hana Hwy at a pretty fast pace. IMO of course. :roflblack:

I have not had the pleasure of riding the Dragon. What gives me a little pause there, is all the videos you see where people are crossing the center line and many who seem to be driving beyond their abilities. I would drive it though.

If you want to add a ride to your bucket list! Add glacier national park to your list! Road it last summer , you climb high into the mountains, still snow along highway in July. Winding curves and beautiful scenery !!

The first couple of times I rode Logans pass or if you wish Highway to the Sun there were no guard rails of any kind,just made sure I stayed away from the edge.The road sometimes doesnt open until later in the spring because is snow blocked
