The PBTF and the Ride for Kids do a lot to help kids and their families deal with the many challenges that a brain tumor can cause. Often we see these issues from the outside, we see the effects that the patient has to deal with, it can be a devastating condition for them not to mention the rest of the family. When that patient is a child, who can often, not comprehend the symptoms or the treatments, it takes on a different twist. I have had the chance to meet some of the bravest and strongest people since my first Ride for Kids event, kids that face every obstacle with a determination and fight that some adults could not muster in the face of adversity.
This ride gets these wonderful kids and their families away from doctor visits and hospitals for a few short hours and and puts them on the road to feel the wind on their faces. The smiles you see on those faces when they return from the short mildly paced, escorted ride will change you forever as they did me. I made a promise the afternoon of my very first Ride for Kids; as long as I can ride and even after I can no longer ride myself, I will do whatever I can to help these amazing kids.
There are 41 rides nationwide each year, and these rides have helped the PBTF become the largest non-government funder of childhood brain tumor research. Last year the rides raised more than 4.4 million dollars as a result of bikers like you, doing what they can to help.
