• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

It's interesting to learn about all the tests but I guess we are to assume the industry has progressed not one whit in 10 years.

......Steve did you happen to notice that article was published in.......2006......So that info is so old it's growing Fungus :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.......Mike .....But thanks for the effort :2thumbs:

aha...

funny, I went to the last page wondering what the motivation of the study was and found out it was clearly sponsored by Amsoil with Amsoil receiving the highest recommendation. hummmmm...

I'm afraid not. The study is nearly ten years old having been done in 2005 or 2006. Oils have changed since them. The big question is, how much? It was also done for, or by, it's not made clear, by Amsoil Powersports Group. How much that affects its credibility is an unknown, particularly since the two Amsoil oils came out on top.

Good try Steve, but I'm afraid you got tripped up! So the :bdh: will continue, unfortunately.

 the LAST thread for oil? :D

So we've gone from arguing which oil is best to which oil change interval is best to now which oil company sponsored study is best!

At least we're evolving.

If this is really the last OIL thread, then it must be time to start the last TIRE thread!!!:lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

E=vstrommer;1083880]Why are most all studies Bias??[/QUOTE]

Follow the MONEY.
Most "studies" :
1. have and agenda.

2. are an advertising gimmic.

I apologize for the study being so old.

Sorry guys & gals. But the study does show the differences in oil quality. One thing I did learn last year looking through all the information about oil is that the viscosity index is the important number to look at when comparing oils.

Also in looking at oils I found that amsoil is the only oil that is not fossil, it is vegetable based which makes it harder to break down & has a higher flash point. No, I am not pushing one oil over another & it is a matter of preference of which oil to use. I'm just trying to clear some of the fog around the subject.

Which is better? I feel full synthetic is the one to use, it just takes the abuse better. And to use the correct weight rating. Weight ratings are determined by how tight an engine is put together. Smaller spaces, thinner oil.

Thanks for reading & motor on!!

:D Steve,
Don'
t give it a second thought...
fighting over oil in here actually saves us from fighting over things like:
tire brands
tire sizes
air pressures in tires
(Tires might be more fun than oil...)
helmet styles
helmet brands
helmet usage
speed limits
DWI checkpoints
radar detectors
top speeds
cruising speeds
the importance of fuel mileage
fuel range
when to re-fuel
what roads to take
what roads to avoid
where to stay
what to see
Is your added-on lighting legal

And that's the SHORT list! :D
