• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Patriotism:2thumbs::clap: is NOT a sin and it definitely is not a crime!:agree:
:chat: Everyone please discuss it and pass this information on because too few people know the real story about the true cost of our freedom!

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 56 MEN WHO SIGNED THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?

Five signers were captured by the British, treated as traitors to the Crown,
and were tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army. Another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
The things that the all had in common......
They all signed, they all pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants. Nine were farmers and large plantation
owners. All were men of means, well educated, and they voluntarily chose to sign the Declaration of
Independence, fully knowing that the penalty would be death, if they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken
from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward,
Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged
General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a
few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for
their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and
caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.
So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots.
It's not much to ask for the price they paid.
Remember: Freedom is never free!
Patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer,
picnics, fireworks and baseball games

Great Post!
2 of the signers, Heyward and Pickney, lived just a few miles from where I live now, so there's quite a bit of history in this neck of the woods/lowcountry

One of them, Benjamin Rush, was the father of modern Psychology. He started the first hospitals for those with mental illnesses. Before him, they just put them in prison.

He was also an ancestor of mine.

Can Snopes really be trusted to tell the truth or even a half truth? They proved many times in recent years they are biased against this great country and are wanting it to follow a european model of kings and servants. One media outlet hired a renouned detective agency to find out who really operates Snopes. What they found was that it was a San Francisco husband and wife team that were ultra left wingers. I started noticing several years ago they seemed to be writing their responses to questions in a slanted way using only half truths. In many eyes they no longer have credibility and are not to be trusted. Ken krb1945

Not to start another american revolution, but, you really need to consider that facts are facts. Sorry, but your description of Snopes is totally suspect and unsupportable. Proof is where? Sorry that the posting you made is wonderful prose -- but totally riddled with mispellings, errors and and unsupportable nonsense.

Don't trust Snopes. Check here http://www.about.com/

or here http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_signed_the_Declaration_of_Independence

or here http://everything2.com/title/What+Happened+to+the+56+Men+Who+Signed+the+Declaration+of+Independence

Just search on the subject. Please don't believe all the crappe and bullcrappe on the internet -- please. Just because some fool posted it on the internet or anywhere else does not -- DOES NOT -- make it true.

I also recommend you do not send any money or information to any Nigerians that have several millions they wish to share with you -- no matter how politely they put the Email to you.

I must agree with Bill on this. Snopes does a FANTASTIC job.

The idea of them somehow being anti-American is ludicrous.

Facts are facts - and they are extremely credible... They have no agenda other than to make sure the truth is seen.

I never forward anything I get via email or online until checking it against Snopes--- and there have been many things I thought for sure were 'made up' or could 'not be possible' that were actually true--- even things that didn't bide well for us 'evil left wingers'.... :D

Thanks for posting the information Bill--- I was just about to check it out as it sounded a bit hokey to me.

Certainly the 4th is a day to honor those who fought and laid the groundwork for our country to become the United States Of America a mere 13 years after the signing of the Declaration.

For those wanting a great history refresher--- check out:

Even though I saw it all and could have DVR'd it for free--- I ordered the Blue-ray set to have in my collection---- it was THAT good.

I think it's ironic that we will agree that the internet is full of lies and misinformation but then use an internet site (which some are now saying is suspect) as the proof of a certain bit of misinformation. :roflblack:

Snoops is suspect because they have an agenda.

Having an agenda is fine and an American tradition but it is important that the agenda be above board and not hidden.

On many things Snoops is extremely accurate. On some things they are not. And in my opinion, it is not by accident.

Being technically correct does not always convey truth.

Like everything else, Snoops has to be taken on a case by case basis. To believe everything they say because they have been right about something in the past is not wise.
