Motorcycling has provided the venue over the past 50 years for creating some wonderful memories. Some memories are of friends sharing the moments; some are of places that are special in our great world; and some are the feelings inside we get when riding a motorcycle (no matter how many wheels it has).
Taking the "road less traveled" sometimes opens a fun new adventure, and sometimes the "road less traveled" is less traveled for a reason!
Coming home from NE Georgia last weekend, after some great twisties-riding in the Smokies, I took the shortest route and turned onto an unfamiliar road as the GPS reported that the next turn was 21 miles distant. After 9 miles the asphalt suddenly turned to gravel/dirt, but good condition, so I rode on. After 4 miles I wondered about my decision but kept going, when suddenly the road turned back into asphalt...GREAT! Then about 15 minutes later, I spotted a deer crossing 100 yds ahead (I was doing around 60mph at that point). Knowing that they usually are not alone, I got hard on the brakes, and sure enough another deer crossed about 20' in front of me. A quick "thanks" to the brake Gods and I continued down the "road less traveled".
Tomorrow, I'll ride about 150 miles with the local BMW motorcycle club. They continue to be amazed that "Buster" can keep up with them in the twisties, and tolerate my presence.
Ride any road you please, but ride safe, my friends...and continue to make memories.
