• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. [h=2]A Tragic Loss[/h]

The Tesla Team June 30, 2016
We learned yesterday evening that NHTSA is opening a preliminary evaluation into the performance of Autopilot during a recent fatal crash that occurred in a Model S. This is the first known fatality in just over 130 million miles where Autopilot was activated. Among all vehicles in the US, there is a fatality every 94 million miles. Worldwide, there is a fatality approximately every 60 million miles. It is important to emphasize that the NHTSA action is simply a preliminary evaluation to determine whether the system worked according to expectations.

Its still in the Beta Testing phase so I guess this is the first lab rat to bite the dust. Actually their record so far is pretty impressive.

If the driver didn't see the truck in time, it doesn't matter if autopilot was engaged or even present in the vehicle.

NTSB will begin allowing semi trucks to use this autopilot system in 2020. Now that is downright frightening!

The lawyers will have a field day with this one. I had a conversation with my insurance guy a while ago and asked in the event of an accident with a computer controlled car who is at fault, his answer was that this is something that the insurance companies are trying to figure out. At this point the companies like Google and Tesla are self insuring.

This accident was due to the semi driver cutting into the Tesla's lane. Had the driver been paying attention as he should, this could have been avoided.
I welcome computer assisted driving..... I'd trust a computer more than 99% of the drivers out there!
Tesla has made it VERY clear that you are using a beta and are still 100% responsible for what your car is doing.
I'm sure people had the same reluctance when cruise control was first introduced.
Damn horseless carriages!

Very scary but I still believe in the direction Tesla is moving in... You as the driver still have to be aware...
