There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Suzuki M109R Questions

Greetings! I've seen the M109 brought up on occasion here on SpyderLovers and have a question or two for those of you familiar with this beast. Bottom line is this: would you recommend the M109? Is it reliable and "bug-free"? Pro's/Con's? I took one for a test drive today and am seriously interested in getting one (pending further research and evaluation). I was totally impressed with its power and handling. This baby had some definite spunk - great torque all the way up the ladder! If I have to ride on two wheels, I think this would be the one. Am I wrong? (Hopefully not!)

Thanks for the input!

As far as I know on here, Lamont and I are the only ones with M109's on here. I have an 07 LE and I wont ever get rid of mine. This has been my first bike also, so I might be a little biased . I'll list some of the issues that I have seen on the M109 board.
1. Fuel rail recall, 06 & 07 models
2. Loose rear brake rotor, 06 & 07 models
3. transmission: 2nd gear shift fork; this seems to be sporatic and a indicator how the 9 has been riden by the owner.
4. Clutch cable: not enough slack in line & routed incorrectly. Easy fix, route outside motor mounts and leave "2 quaters" of slack in cable.
5. Suzuki has the has fixed issues with the years 08 and up. There is also rumor that for 2012 the M109 will get a facelift.
6. The only pain in the but maintenance issue with the bike is checking the oil. Suzuki uses a 15/3 method and if I posted it up it would take a full page. Others use a "cold check" method that others have verified and seems to be the most accurate method. I use the cold check method myself.
7. If you can work on a Spyder, working on a M109 is real easy.
8. Some seem to have clutch shudder issues, this seems to be a clutch lubrication issue, that is solved by running certain oil weights, dino & synth oils.

All of the issues have been sporatic pretty much like the some have issues with their Spyder's here. Again I wouldn't trade mine for anything. It has never standed me on the side of the road. Let me know if you have any more questions ans I will try and answer them. You can also go to m109riders.com and read more. I am under the same screen name there as well.

Thanks for the feedback, my friend! I'm looking at getting a 2011 model so, hopefully, most of the issues listed would have been dealt with. The M109R certainly can't be any more buggy than my 2010 RT-S that's been in the shop at least three times in the past six weeks due to computer gremlins.....parking brake failure, lack of throttle control, refusal to idle when cold, etc........ I'm looking forward to riding a machine I can rely upon. I do alot of riding (I've put over 23K on my Spyder in the 13 months I've owned it.....(alot of praying, I might add!). No Spyder bashing, I love my Spyder to bits but I think it's time to move on. My wife still has an RT-AC that has been almost trouble free - maybe she'll let me sneak in a ryde occasionally?

I love my M109R. An awesome machine! But it is not bug free. From what I've heard, and previous posts appear to confirm, the later models have been 'fixed'. But even without the fixes (which can be made to the earlier models) it is still an awsome machine!

I've done 145mph on mine (trying to keep up with Lamont pulling a trailer! :yikes: ) and it was rock solid.

Cool, there's another one here. Like Baja has said, there are still issues but the majority have been worked out. I'm really looking forward to seeing the 2012's and see if they chnaged the look any.

It's the first Suzuki I've owned and it was my love before the Spyder. Still have it and still have big plans for it, just not sure when as it hasn't left the shop in two years. :opps:

I have had a couple Suzuki's in my life. A Suzuki 450 (1981-or 82)--dressed it up with a sissy bar. A Suzuki 850 (either 82 or 83). Put on a Windjammer fairing, saddle bags, and travel trunk. Burgandy, and she looked really nice--that was my biggest bike to date--that was traded for the Yamaha Venture 1200.

I really did like those bikes. Never had a problem with either of the Suzuki's.

I had a 99 Sv 650 [Should have kept it]
I also had another Suzuki a Tl 1000, fully worked, Had to get rid of it.
That bike would make my Sons Busa look slow, It was wicked fast, any kind of throttle and the front wheel would
head for the sky and try to rip you from the bars. Got it used that's why the first owner sold it, And that's why i got rid of it.!! Way too fast for the street [dangerous]
