Stolen deflectors off ST-L side saddlebags...

Spyder Tony

Yesterday, I noticed both deflectors on the side of the saddlebags on my girlfriend's ST-L were gone. They were there the day before, as I walk each bike (as well as our cars) daily looking for dents, dings, chips, etc. Call me crazy, but it's a habit that served me well over the years. Anyways...i'm thinking it's gotta be kids since the deflectors have no real value, AND I used her bike (because it doesn't get driven a whole lot these days) to pick up my son from his elementary school that day. Previously, the bike had sat for at least a couple of weeks. I do my usual walk-around and notice the deflectors gone. As a result, I am looking for a replacement set...and would like a lighted set if possible (Similar to the Tricled lights). I'm thinking I won't be able to get a lighted set because of the logistics of the saddlebags being removable...which would interfere with any wiring.

I am aware that these deflectors have been known to fall off...but the chances of both of them falling off on the same day at the same approximate time is nearly infinitesimal. It is possible...but not probable.

It's not a real expensive fix...but it really ticks me off that someone would put hands on our Spyders in such a way. This just boils down to me venting, and I appreciate y'all letting me do so. If anyone knows about a replacement set that would be lighted to increase night visibility, please let me know. Thanks!!!

Well ; let's hope that they just fell off...
As bad as that it is; it does allow you to feel a bit better about mankind... ;)

It could well be that both fell off. Especially if you've been having cold weather. Even you are having to stretch a bit in your assessment that someone stole them. I'd say the probability that they both fell off far exceeds the possibility of theft.

After 22,000 the Rear fender of my GS almost fell off-Until I took it off so it wouldn,t dig into the tire?:yikes:

The adhesive does not stick well in the cold. I would suggest all owners hit them with a heat gun and warm them up and push them on a couple of times just to be safe  In the car plant we kept stick ons under infra red heaters prior to install to make sure they stuck. Maybe BRP does not do that.:dontknow:

Looks like..!!

they may have fallen off...but do see your doubt being that they both fell of. What are the odds nonetheless they are not a choice item to steal unless someone lost theirs and are poor at shopping....bummer..!! :dontknow:

I would suggest trying to pry them off. If they come off easily that gives you the opportunity to do a better job of attaching them than BRP did before they fall off by themselves. Not ideal but probably the best option at this stage of the game.

If you can pry them off and the adhesive is clean heating them up should work well. There is also adhesive enabler on the market to make it even better. Just wipe the surface where it goes after heating the reflector and stick on. It WILL NOT come off after that.

Well...it looks like the consensus is that they were there when I parked at the elementary school to pick up my son, then they just both fell off (nevermind that they were nowhere to be seen on the ground by the parked bike) by the time I returned with him in tow. Okay...i guess it's like when all 4 of my Mitsubishi logo valve stem caps kept falling off of the valve stems on all 4 tires of my cage until I paid the extra $40 for the locking ones...

lights on saddle bags

When mine fell off, I decided to put marker lights in place of the reflectors , If you notice from the pictures I also put them on the spyder and the trailer. They were about $12 ea. at a truck stop. Hope this helps.SAM_0002 (800x600).jpgSAM_0003 (800x600).jpgSAM_0004 (800x600).jpg

Johnny...that looks exactly like what I am looking for. They look to fit in the same oval cutout on the saddlebag too. I am assuming they are battery powered...how long do the batteries last? I will search for those (or similar) lights. Thanks for the tip!!! Any chance you remember the manufacturer name of those lights?

Tony The lights come with wires attach to them. I wired them into the tail lights, being they are leds they don't take as much current as your regular lights. I did the trailer the same way. As for the Manufacturer I can get you the name next week, I got them at a truck stop. The only thing that my receipt says Flatline sm Slim. So that really don't tell you much. I will go back to the shop next week and see if it has any info on the package. Till next time John If you have any questions you can call me on my cell 352-303-6198

It's what I'm going to do now I know that they're not very secure. Bring the bags into the warmth of my lounge and apply a little local heat
then see what my options are. I fancy using some plastic welding techniques which I've used on other items. Or maybe some epoxy and
a little hot glue. Whatever.
Thanks for the heads up guys! I've had fancy valve caps fall off from my car too. So a little tip: Don't use aluminum valve caps as if you leave them
on for a while due to the dissimilar metals corrosion they may never come off again! My tyre guy had to cut the valve stems from the rims! :lecturef_smilie:
