ST Driver Backrest

Wondering if anyone installed a driver backrest onto the OEM ST-S seat? Looking for ideas to increase back support for long rides. Any help would be appreciated!

I see you don't have a rear backrest listed amongst your modification list. if you haven't and you ride solo most of the time I would have a look at one of these.

the one above is made by smoothspyder a sponsor on the home page. Factory makes the passenger backrest but I think Utopia makes the driver ones...:thumbup:

There are detailed instructions somewhere on this web site on how to install a backrest. Its easy to do. I saw it about 2 months ago, I couldn't begin to tell you where to find them, sorry. Try to GOOGLE it. Or maybe the WEB MASTER may know where to look.

I had the dealer install a Utopia drivers backrest when I bought my ST Limited. Had one on the RT and really enjoy the comfort. Both added to the original seat. Penny

SmoothSpyder Backrest

I just recently bought and installed a SmoothSpyder backrest. The main reasons I bought this one over an OEM, etc. is that 1) it keeps the sporty look of the bike, 2) it's adjustable for both driver and passenger.

I use it quite a bit solo and it works fantastically... I mainly only lean back on it when at stoplights. I don't have any risers on my handlebars to make it comfortable to sit back like a cruiser when driving. My wife rides on the back and she loves it. As she puts it, she no longer has to keep a death-grip on the handles when I'm driving. It doesn't have the lateral support that the RT has, but it's not suppose to, it's a sport cruiser bike!! Comparing to the OEM backrest, this is much more adjustable and with the same level of support. The rails don't get in the way of my wife's behind or her arms when holding on to the side handles. It is solidly built and I really do like the integrated ratchet latch in the back-pad itself!! The only thing I'm working around is when I move it back and forth I have to 'adjust' for fit each time... I'm going to put a little mark on the bracket and arm with a grease pen and it should probably solve the problem in 'remembering' the position angle / settings when moved back and forth with passenger and not.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this... in all honesty, it should be THE OEM replacement, not that $1000 monstrosity that has only one useful purpose.
