Spyder will not move!

I have a 2011 RT, no major problems until today. I only have 1850 miles on it. Stopped at the light in the middle of town during lunch hour and I'm stuck in 3rd. Manage to get pulled off from light. The next light catches me.... it will not down shift, check engine light flashes, an E shows up where the 3 used to be, temp is now 113. Goes back to the 3rd and I manage to get another block to my job. Down shifts when I stop to pull into work but the RPM's jump has it down shifts and it jerks. I turn it off, let it cool, start it up and shift into 1st, shift into reverse, back to 1st. I drive three blocks shifts up to 5th all is good. Turn around to head back to work and it will not pull off, its in 1st gear at this point. It's like the parking break is on or something. Rev it up to 6000 RPM and it CRAWLS. Put it in reverse and it CRAWLS.
Called tow truck and had it towed the 50 miles to the dealer we got it from. Now it will be Tuesday before they can even look at it and we cancel our plans for the ride we were going on this weekend with friends. BTW the entire time its being loaded I have to listen to the tow truck driver tell me how I should have bought a Harley. :gaah::gaah::gaah:
Granted he was a nice guy and he was just messing with me but really, how do you defend something that has less than 2000 miles on it and is having to be loaded up on a tow truck? Also how he has been expecting some of the "OLD" guys in his club to get one. EXCUSE ME I'M NOT OLD AND I DANG SURE AIN'T A GUY!:gaah:

Turned it off while waiting for the tow truck and it shifts back to N and then into 1st but just want move!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a SE or SM? It seems that the semi auto has a lot of problems that don't happen on the manual. I hope you get fixed up soon and back on the road.

All 2011 White RT's are limited's with the SE5 Tranny

Yup, should be an SE5 & it seems some are having issues with them in extreme heat conditions. Could also be loose battery/relay connections, as ive read alot about these issues lately. Hope they get it figured out & get you back on the road. Please let us know what they find?

This is the third or fourth thread on the subject today. Are we running into a problem here?

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

It's the semi automatic. It wasn't hot here today low 90's which is cool compared to what it's been lately. I'll let you know what they find, y'all keep me posted if you hear anything.
First and earthquake, then a hurricane that caused a tree to fall into our house, and now my Spyder.... I'm going to church Sunday!!

I sure hope there is something different wrong with yours, I don't want anyone else to do without their Spyder till December, I hope I find out differently Tuesday.

Could be the valve solenoid (part# 420,656,365) off the tranny. Without getting into a lot of detail we have a unit in the shop now with a simular tranny issue. Traced it down to this component (we think, not 100% sure). We shall see what happens. Have your dealer look into this area of the machine.

I hope they plan on making the payment for the next two months.... If I have to go until December with something I just bought in May it's not going to be good... :(I'm really hoping it will be something simple. I love my Spyder and hate the thought of not having it to ride.

Clutch Solenoid

First report is: Clutch Solenoid. I hope that's what it is. Honestly I'm not real comfortable with my dealer. Every time we have had something done we have had to call to get the update or to ask if it is ready. We took it in for the 600 mile service and I don't know how long they would have kept it if we hadn't called. Then we had the wiring for the CB done. They had to order the parts and said they would call us to bring it in when the parts come in. After two weeks we called them and "they said" they just come in today. After taking it in after three days we called to ask when we could pick it up. "They said" we "just" finished. Now with this, I called Friday to tell them it was on the way. I didn't hear anything else from them so I called them around 5:15 to make sure it had arrived and if they had an ETA. I knew they were closed Monday and the guy told me they would look at Tuesday and call me. No word Tuesday so I called them today around 1. Same story.... he is working on it now and "thinks" it is the clutch solenoid. So I asked him to call me when he was sure. He tells me that they guy working on it said he is pretty sure and will call me when the part comes in. Am I expecting too much? Do most dealers not call you? Heck does the clutch have a solenoid?:dontknow:

Feeling Better

Feeling a little better about things. I was contact via email by Carlo at BRP asking for contact information, vin number and dealer handling repairs. Hopefully something will happen and I will get Bob back soon. Dealer said the part should arrive tomorrow. I guess I'll have to wait and see if that fixes the problem. I wonder if I will get a phone call to update me or if I will have to call them again.....:gaah:

Sure did miss Bob on my birthday. Had planned on riding most of the day. :sour:

Brewers Cycles in Henderson, NC. Really nice guys just hate that I have to call them to find anything out.

Well... part was supposed to be here yesterday. Haven't heard from the dealer on the status of Bob. No ETA on when I can pick him up. :( Sure would be nice if he was home before the weekend.

There does appear to be a somewhat pervasive problem (meaning, more than random bad part) involved with this issue, namely the clutch solenoid. I went today to pick up my 2011 RT-S for the throttle body replacement (ran fine on the 10 mile ride home, we'll see how he starts in the morning; hopefully all is solved). But while waiting for the bike to be brought around, I was chatting with one of the dealer guys who mentioned that they had a nearly fresh-out-of-the-box showroom RT, with 10 miles on the odo, fail during a demo to a customer, due to (wait for it) a failed clutch solenoid. Same issue as described above, etc. The fellow said the replacement job made my throttle body replacement (a six hour task, per BRP's manual) look like child's play (he said the clutch solenoid replacement was a 27 hour task, although that part was perhaps hyperbole). Regardless, it sounds like it was much harder to replace than the throttle body. Given that this happened on a brand new bike that had barely moved outside the showroom, I'd say there is definitely an issue afoot there. And no quick fix... So for those of us who have not had that issue, I guess we need to keep our fingers crossed.

I haven't looked up hours for changing out the throttle body but I can tell you it can be done in a hour, the hardest part it removing the air box. I think your guy has his hours a little crossed up, Thera no way BRP is going to pay those kind of hours to change those parts.

I also miss my Spyder. I'm not sure when my part will arrive, tomorrow would be wonderful. Got plans for next weekend that I'd hate to miss.

I understand that it takes time to get the parts, replace the parts, and then test the machine. However, I don't understand not keeping your costumer informed of which phase of the process you are in.

Just not a good couple of months. First Irene blows a tree onto our house, then the Spyder goes into the shop, then my hubby gets sick (nothing major but he NEVER gets sick) then I take my truck in for an oil change and check engine light being on this morning, $600.00 to fix that!!!!

On a good note... the dealership for my truck is keeping me updated!!! Also I'll prove a point to my husband about not answering his phone....a $600.00 point.... :roflblack::(:roflblack:

Wouldn't disagree with you at all on what is likely the actual labor involved. However, their receipt for the warrenty work did show a six-hour labor charge, so I presume BRP must be okay with that. Or there's some sort of "adjustment" that goes on behind the scenes between dealer and BRP. Maybe six hours is the "max" and they're supposed to report actual, or some such thing. The part cost, just by way of note, was something like $1200 for the throttle body. Glad all this is happening under warrenty...

Anyway, Sharky (our Spyder's name) started up just fine this morning, back to his old self. Happy motoring resumes!

I'm with you on it being a good thing all of this is happening under warranty. I would have to take out a second mortgage if it weren't.

My dealer charged 4.5 hours to change the throttle body, and another 0.3 hours to perform the 2011-7 update.
