Spyder safer than a two-wheel bike? Here is your answer...

First things first...I'm okay. Battered and bruised. Incredibly sore, but alive. Posted this on the Can AM Spyder FB page as well. If anyone wonders whether the Spyder is truly safer than a two wheel bike, I am living proof. Walked away from this yesterday. Released from the hospital after 8 hours with no broken bones or internal injuries. My 2014 RTS is totaled but I am alive this morning. Not sure how. I was at a dead stop waiting for someone to turn left through stopped traffic when I was rear ended by a Tahoe doing about 40 mph. Other driver got distracted by something and didn't see the traffic stopped in front of her. Her Tahoe bent the Spyder's frame and trunk completely around, into my back and it pinned me to the windshield and steering hand grips. After the initial shock I was able to pull myself out of the Spyder and walk away. Police and EMTs were stunned I was even able to stand after this. Bottom line is I'm okay. The Spyder design is the reason I am alive to write this. I saw her coming in my side mirror and stood up, wedging my thighs on the hand grips, as I braced for the impact. Sore and bruised, but alive. I'll be getting back on a Spyder once the insurance claim is done and body is healed from this.

Holy Cow! Glad everything turned out all right. The :spyder2: sure ended up being toast. Glad no fire, etc. You are one very lucky person.

Hang in there.

first off... I am elated you are OK... when I looked at the picture of your spyder... I said .. YIKES !! .....again.. I am elated you are OK... your guardian angel sure was with you that day .. !!!!!!

WOW !! So glad that you are OK except for a bumps and bruises. Its probably a good thing you stood up and braced for impact or you might have been folded up into the spyder.

Appreciate it very much. I got really lucky. Still shocked I am doing as well as I am.

 Good to hear you are OK. Unbelievable. I am ordering the 2 nd. and 3 rd. (all they have) rear lights tomorrow.

you definitely had the big guy upstairs watching out for you!!! glad you are doing fine!!! you got a lot to be thankful for!!! heal fast.

Unbelievable

That you walked away from that. :yikes::yikes: I am just truly astounded. If you had been on a two wheeler, we would most likely be reading your obituary rather than your post. Really glad that you escaped with mostly minor injuries. Let us know when the bruises turn yellow.

Glad you are ok.. I have been through one of those myself when i totaled a Spyder off the side of an illegally parked (across a main highway) trailer truck.. The Spyder was totaled but I was unharmed.. They really are tough

I think my "profile title" needs to be handed off to you. I agree. The spyder is much much safer when it comes to accidents than a two wheel. Really glad you're okay.

Holy crap....that is much more than the spyder being "safe".....It just wasn't your time:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Well I'll say it; and I'll even take the hit for it; if I have to...

Holy ****... :yikes:
You are so lucky to be relatively uninjured! :2thumbs:
But you WILL be sore; once the adrenaline wears off! Keep your favorite painkillers close by!

In my Fire and EMS days

if I would have seen you I would have strongly advised you to immediately go and buy a lottery ticket.....

2-, 3-, or 4-wheels - based on the severity of that impact, it's truly miraculous that you got up and walked away from that. Giving credit where it's due, your situational awareness and reaction before the impact certainly paid dividends.

Very, very happy to see that you're still with us. The machine can be replaced.

We are soooo happy that you are ok. We are also very happy that you were by yourself. A rear end collision is the one thing I worry about most. Damn cell phones :mad::mad:
