• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have noticed that there has been some talk about hard wiring the fan. has any body out there done this:dontknow:? If so please enlighten me. I have called my dealer, of course they say not to do it, they can't say how to do this because if something goes wrong they don't want to be involved. I don't know if I am the only one with this problem but I live in florida and right know it's hot as H---. and just around town and at stop lights it will go up to 5 black marks and not come down. The fan comes on but will not bring it down around town. Once I have went a mile or so it will go down to 4 black marks but that is all. So as for riding around I worry about the heat. The heat stays around five marks and sometimes I see 6 marks flashing and the fan is on. I just don't want to tape into this fan wire and have the bike to go into Limp Home Mode The dealer is to far away. any help will be great :f_spider:.

Thank You
Chuck

Hey Chuck,
If you are just concerned that it gets hot, the Spyder can handle it. If its more of a comfort issues, like foot or legs burning, then there are post here in this forum you can search to help you out with that. I live in Florida also and know what you are talking about. Personally, I have done the pipe wrapping, and replaced my stock antifreeze with ICE antifreeze. I have this DEI kit I will be putting near the radiator this weekend, to help cool down the foot area.

Good luck.

4-5 is normal warm weather operation. The thermostat doesn't even open until three, so that is the minimum normal operating temperature. If it stays at five with the fan on, it is OK, just over half the guage. If the fan is already on, adding a switch won't help anyway...you don't need to turn it on twice. Turning it on earlier might be nice, but in the end it will eventually reach the same temperature anyway, based on your speed, engine load, and the air temp and humidity. I too have seen six marks flash. No worries. If six stays on solid, limp mode may not be far off.

Temp problem fixed ?

Hi
First I want to thank everyone for all the information, after I had sent my question I saw the input from Rleathen and I did just as he said. Already had a lighted switch and wire and all connectors so I did just what you said and you are right works great. Just had to go to the dealer this-morning :yikes:about 40 miles from my home. Went the freeway so no problem with the temp, but in traffic (a back-up at Okeechobee). I just put the fan on and the temp never went above 4 bars in fact went down to three bars. I was in traffic for about 15 minutes. Again I want to say thanks to all of you, Spyder lovers is one of the best places on the internet or anywhere else to get information on :spyder:

Chuck :2thumbs:

PS I live in Port St. Lucie Florida

Chasbadger I think this fan switch has been one of my best mods to date. Like I said being able to turn the fan on at will does help keep or at least delay limp mode. Again the only real drawback is that when the fan is on in stop and go traffic my right foot really heats up !
