• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder edition numbers

There are lots of pics on the web of Spyders with numbers on the bars. Are these just Special/Premier Edition models? My SE5 has nothing! Boo Hoo. :(

The first production of the Spyder are all Premier Editions. At first, BRP projected only 2500 PEs but I believe they went over 3000. I think it may be close to 3,500. The PE number is located on the right side of the bar. BRP also gave PE jackets along with the card membership. A Spyder is still a Spyder with or without the number:spyder::thumbup:.

We don't want to get Roaddog fired up over this again but.... :D

Closer to 4,000 actually. BRP really screwed up the PE numbering when they made around 500 dealer and company demos (non-sellable units?) with PE numbers, plus they mistakingly let out a batch of North American PE Spyders to Australia. That bumped the PE numbers up by about 1,000. I think the actual, original, personally owned PE group totals around 2,800 even though the numbers go up to 3,800'ish.

I noticed that the PE number on my spyder is last 4 digits of the Spyder serial number.

I wonder if that was just a fluke or a reality for all spyders?

That's how they did them. They actually had a plan. Model designation in the S/N differs, too, as I recall

Here is the actual letter of explanation from BRP's site regarding the Premier Edition Spyders

PREMIERE EDITION SPYDER CLARIFICATION - APRIL 9, 2008

With the recent flurry of comments online and particularly on Can-AmTalk.com, we wanted to address the issues raised in the last few days. With the launch of Spyder, we're very proud of what we have created, including the Premiere Edition program but we've also made some mistakes and we want to clear the air.
We're just as excited about the open exchange of information as you are. We're very happy to see this level of exchange between Spyder owners and enthusiasts. Keep it coming! Even amid a few "conspiracy theories" out there, we actually enjoy reading the comments as the Spyder community grows!
Regarding the Premiere Edition Spyder roadsters, we want to acknowledge that we made a mistake on the numbering sequence and we want to apologize. The information we provided two weeks ago was wrong and we are sorry.
Now, let's set the record straight.
When we first began taking Premiere Edition pre-orders in February of 2007, our goal was to create an exclusive club for the first 2,500 North American Spyder roadster owners. This remains true today.
There are exactly 2,589 Premiere Edition Spyder owners in North America.
From this, we created the 2.5K owners program and provided the 2.5K owners map. Yes, we rounded down to 2,500!
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that some people actually took the time to count the names on the map and came up with 2,532! The difference with 2,589 is strictly a timing issue between the printing of the map and the actual final number in our system. Our intent was to promote the symbolic 2.5K number.
Furthermore, the confusion resides in the numbering sequence and we apologize for this, but want to further explain exactly what has happened.
As previously discussed on SpyderRyder.com, the two main reasons for the Premiere Edition Spyder sequence numbers exceeding #2,589 are the dealer demo units and the Try Spyder Tour units. In fact, I mentioned the final sequence number of Premiere Edition units should be at #3,306 in a recent Can-AmTalk forum. These 800 dealer/tour units were taken from the same sequence as the Premiere Edition vehicles to ensure that dealers and tour staff had display and demo units quickly for training and marketing purposes.
I also want to bring it to your attention that we recently discovered a mistake with the Premiere Edition numbering sequence. Contrary to the information that we had received, it turns out that we did include approximately 550 international/overseas units in the production line sequence for Premiere Edition vehicles. The original intent was to start a new numbering sequence for international/overseas units. Unfortunately, this did not occur and we are sorry.

With the addition of the 550 international/overseas units and the 800 or so dealer demo and tour units, it puts the final sequence number of Premiere Edition Spyder roadsters at 3,856. We apologize for the confusion, but want to assure you, as our most valued Spyder customers, there are only 2,589 Premiere Edition Spyder first owners in North America.
Again, we apologize for the confusion regarding the quantities of Premiere Edition Spyder roadsters.
Please e-mail [email protected] with any questions – our goal is to keep you informed and be a resource for all of your Spyder questions.
Sincerely,
Marc R. Lacroix
Can-Am Spyder Marketing Director

Okay, IF the PE owners of the actual first 2,589 sold in North America all got 2.5K pins, how come, with PE 3266, I got just an owners pin? I'm more confused now than before.

You likely got a spyder ryder pin...not a PE pin...I believe those were different...

You also should've gotten a card...not sure if the PE were different with that too...

I don't care if my bike is PE or not...they don't sell for more and they have all the original problems...sometimes it's better to wait a bit anyway...gives BRP time to fix early production run errors...

There are always PEs on ebay...I bought mine new but I could've gotten many a PE cheaper...I don't think the PE stigma is worth much, IMHO...

You can check on Ebay yourself...when you see a PE, it sells for the same as any of the other Spyders...

:agree:

That PE number may be worth something in a few years, if Spyders ever get into a collectable status. BRP could have made it worth something right now if they would have made the PE Spyders special in some way other than just putting Spyder Premier Edition plates in the handle bar cover.

What about the squeaky brakes, sticky parking brake, muffler burn mark, etc.., isn't that special? :joke:

Well, besides those things. :D I never considered it worth any extra to get those "features". :D

If you read the whole article I posted it will tell you that the final PE number is actually 3856, but of those there are only 2589 North American PE owners. There were approx. 800 Demos made that received PE numbers and around 500 PE numbers that were shipped to Europe and Australia that were not supposed to be. So even though you have number 3266 you are one of the 2589 here in North America that has a PE. Does that help? That is why you have a first owners pin or jacket or whatever else.
