• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder dealer GPS file question

I'd like to import Can Am's Spyder dealer file into my Garmin Nuvi 40, but I don't know if it's compatible with my dinky GPS. BRP's website has two choices: Zumo 590 and Zumo 660. Can I do a drop 'n drag into my device via my computer? Is it even compatible?

I'm thinking I'm out of luck, as my Nuvi is an older and rather basic device.

(P.S. : Before anyone suggests I upgrade to a better unit, I really don't use GPS in the first place. I just happen to have this one for use in my previous truck, and I'm thinking of just making do with it.)

Thanks!

Sorry no experience with the nuvi, but you can always give garmin tech support a call & or just try it yourself. If the navigation will support a memory card I'd try that way first. If fails uyou can simply remove card instead of reloading the backup.
Please always back up device somewhere secure before adding new info:lecturef_smilie:.

I tried Garmin tech support; they've apparently taken the long weekend off. I was hoping someone here could answer in the meantime.

With the Nuvi plugged into my computer, I can see a file structure with several folders. I downloaded the .gpi file from the BRP website. Can I drop 'n drag, or copy 'n paste, it somewhere? Anyone know in which folder it should reside?

What are the options in the Nuvi's existing file structure FB? :dontknow:

Is there anything in there that already holds files you can open from a Nuvi Menu?? That'd at least be worth trying... ;)

I have been attempting to do this for two years, all without any upgrade or should I say changes.

I did it myself, and the dealer list remained the same.

I called Garmin because their tech support is superb, in my experience, and they did what they could but frankly it is a BRP file upgrade and not really their business.

I made attempts to get assistance from BRP but to no avail.

After multiple attempts of deleting the old file old file and inserting the new file downloaded from BRP, I strongly believe that BRP has not updated the file for some time. I delete the dealer file, download and insert the new file, and the dealer list is the same, so......:banghead:

Follow the instructions for the 660. It will work just fine. I have done this in the past with a Nuvi 255 and 265. They are a lot older models then what you have.

Note: The file can be copied to any folder on the Nuvi. Even the root. But do as the instructions say and put it in the POI file folder. That is to keep things organised and you can find it again to update.

You can add the Spyder RT vehicle icon as well next.

THANKS!!! That's exactly what I needed to know! It worked just fine!

My wife bought this unit on sale from one of those TV shopping channels a few years back. I haven't used it in years because my new car has GPS. I figured I'd try to resurrect it for my Spyder (might as well, as it came with lifetime maps) The funny thing is, even the most basic mounting hardware solution will cost more than the GPS itself. :p But I guess if I ever get a better unit, I'll have a mount for it.
