• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder cool-down smell

spyderdips

Have been riding a 09 SM5 RS and enjoy every moment. Ever since I have bought this vehicle, I have experienced the following and was wondering if this is normal.
After riding when I pull in my spyder into the garage and its trying to cool-down there is a very distinctive smell. The whole machine is very hot and the smell is very strong. Not sure if its oil, gas, rubber or just the hot metal. Wondering if others also experience the same.

Thanks.

A strong 'fuel' smell is very common. The engine gets everything hot under the tupperware & can even cause the fuel in the tank to 'boil' :yikes: & the Spyders are equipped with an evap canister to help dissipate fumes & meet environmental standards:lecturef_smilie: If your getting another smell, I'm not sure what that would be:dontknow:

Mine does the same thing. It smells like a really hot engine to me. I'm not worried about it as long as it doesn't start smoking or have flames shooting out of it.... :yikes: I probably shouldn't joke like that....:pray::pray:

It dont smell well

:coffee: As I enjoy my morning joe I remember yesterday the strong fuel smell when I parked the spyder. I had put 93 oct. in the tank, and it had a stronger smell than the off road fuel I normally use. I have a 2011 RTS . It was 93 deg. on the trip from Miami to Key Largo.

Also have it on 2011 RT-S. Never worried me as its always there. I will worry when I do not smell it..:roflblack:

 Nope... :roflblack:
Without a little bit better description of what it is that you're smelling; we'd all just be guessing... :opps:

Noticed a stronger than usual oder, kinda like the rotten egg smell from the cat converter, this morning after parking my :f_spider: in my garage. I had noticed the smell before but not as strong as this morning. My :f_spider: was hotter than normal since I left it running while I unlocked the garage, raised the overhead door, took off my helmet, etc then backed my :f_spider: into the garage. The smell was really strong and was even evident after returning home following a couple hour long shopping trip.

Do a search for fule vapors or smells and canisterectomy on this forum

I'd be very concerned. I'm not gonna write more than a couple sentences. Read the forum - must be 1000 writeups ref this subject. My canister is out, vent line goes to the back and it is bad sometimes and sometimes ok, just like it was with the two canisters and a purge valve replacement. I was at our community mailbox talking to a guy a while ago and he started looking around and I pointed to the vent and gas was dripping like crazy. It's been ok for a couple weeks, but my daughter won't let me park in her garage when I'm there looking after grandkids, due to the stench from the gas vapors and drops. BRP says don't fill up the tank - I never have and don't now. This is really a hell of a problem for X% of the owners, others don't seem to get the dripping, etc.
Read the forum and you'll see this problem is not unusual; but the usual response from BRP is essentially tough stuff.:banghead: nojoke etc.

This has been the only serious (continuing) problem I've had without an immediate solution from BRP and the dealer.
