• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spring loaded trunk release for RS

I understand there is a way to make the RS model trunk release, spring loaded. So that I don't have to run back to the hardware store 10 times, is there any information out there on how much tension the spring should have and what size washers are used? I look forward to your replies. Thanks

Others more knowledgeable than me will chime in. I was given the spring by a forum member. But I didn't do anything fancy with it. I used some silicone and just sort of glued it in place around the latch pin. Doesn't exactly look very good. But it works!

I went the way of using the spring and the copper plumbing end cap. I really like it and it's easy.

If you go to the ShopTalk section there is a thread by bjt in august 2008 titled "hood spring" (I think) that has pictures and description of what he did. Good luck. (I did a search under "trunk spring" to find the thread).

If I remember right (and it's going on 4 years) the #165 spring from True Value Hardware works. But if you know what a spring-nut is, the spring off one will work, too.

I just grabbed a spring from my box of assorted springs, put it on the striker spade, and tighten it between the two nuts that hold the spade . I also attached a cable to the locking arm and ran it out the side behind the front tire, So i could open the trunk without using the key.

There are a bunch or variations on this, using various springs. A search for "trunk spring" should net you several posts. The newer Spyder RSes are equipped with a spring at the factory. The easiest way may be to have your dealer order you one.
