Speed kills? Wind just hurts!

Hi Jane,
I'm glad to hear it's not worse than it is...get well soon! As for Spyderfest, I'm sure no one would give you any grief if you showed up in a cage. nojoke I know it's not as much fun, but hanging with all the other SpyderLovers would still be a very good time. I'm sure there are many people who would let you ride pillion while you're there (myself included).
Mike

Jane - I'm so sorry to see you go through this. I did something similar 20+ years ago and know it's not fun.

You have my best wishes and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery!
.

HEAL little Jane HEAL

What bad news-----then all the people who know you wanting the best for you--that's good
I for one agree with all the well wishers.
My first thought of was ------ will she be well enough to make cookies for spyderfestus.
I was really popular in Tennessee with your late night cookies around the pool. I let everyone know they were home made. I may have mentioned your name I don't recall.
Maybe you could make some more and I could pick them up-----???
I like being popular.

HEAL fast OK

wow, what a story, so sorry to hear about such a bad break. Sounds like the eventual outcome is very optimistic, and you'll get to ride your new Ducati. It would still be great to meet you at the Spyderfest even if your still in a cast. Hope your able to get a cast that lets you ride, tell the Doctors and get well soon.

sorryabout your troubles get well soon and ill keep you in my prayers for a fast recovery.and hope you make it to spyder fest some way some how.see you there.:spyder2:

Jane, I was very sorry to read about your injury. As you say, it really sucks that this happened to you right at the beginning of riding season. I hope you can get out on your Spyder soon, and before too long, on your new Ducati as well!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Bruce

Hi Jane,
I'm real sorry to hear of your injuries. I'm glad your surgery went well for you. You have a long haul ahead of you in physical therapy, and your upcoming surgery.
You are definitly in my prayers, and I'm still hopeing I see you at Spyderfest.......... hang in there !!!

Jane, prayers for a quick recovery. I still carry a rod in the lower left leg from my injury in '99, so I can say I know how you feel. Was on crutches from September '99 to January 2000. Not bike related though.

Jane,

Scotty gave great advice. Especially about getting the extra long shower seat to make it easy to get in and out. Wish I knew that trick sooner.

Relax, have Jane Diva Days and make David spoil you.

Sending love and good healing your way...

Wish you a speedy recovery and hope I will have the chance to ryde with you at Maggie Valley Owners Event.

Jane, you guys just can't catch a break.(no pun intended).
Soo sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you heal soon. Really looking forward to seeing you guys in Cuba.

Thank you all for your warm wishes and replies - makes me feel better already! That's actually true, too. The surgeon told me I could count on having a few rocky days ahead with the post-surgical pain - but I guess he forgot to tell my leg :hun:. I actually have to think think hard to even feel any pain (although I'm sure the pills I take twice a day are to thank for that). I've had a great day practicing trick moves with the new wheelchair. I've thought of Seth-O often today wishing I had him around to give me some beginner pointers. (P.S. to Seth - that's the really silly part of my saga... I was sitting still at the stop sign. If I'd been moving, probably would have had no problem as I was just staying in the center of my lane and letting the wind move me over a bit and then moving back - no problem there as long as I stayed relaxed on the bars. We've ridden in heavier winds with rain thrown in before. It's that darn stopping that gets me - too short in the legs to touch more than a toe and not strong/heavy enough to catch or hold a fall once it starts.)
Thanks for the suggestions from Scotty and Yazz - I had already installed bags on the sides of my walker - one for good stuff and one for trash so I didn't have to hop my walker to the waste can all day. Also have a bag on back of the wheelchair with books, phone, water, etc. close at hand. I did the garbage back on the leg number but used Press and Seal around the top to water proof it so I'd have no sticky duct tape residue and it worked quite well.
Dick, no pun intended, huh? Thanks for the thought:p. Thanks Raptor for the kind words - ironic that I was worried about you taking chances and sending up prayers for your safety on the forum and here I wipe out standing still! The fickle finger of fate??? Cyncy and Teddie thanks for the good wishes - doggie prayers are truly special! Thanks to all the MO GANG for your thoughts. And, Dear Gene... I promise I will try so very hard to come up with some cookies for Spyderfest...you're so kind to think of it so far ahead - it'll give me time to work on my one footed cooking technique, you ornery guy, you.
Thanks for all the war stories, too, from all you who experienced similar injuries - it's good to know in a few months I'll probably be good as new. Poor David is the one who may not make it - he's picking up the slack right now for me until we figure out how I can run the vacuum and get the laundry downstairs, so his back is already starting to protest. He was a trooper today, though, and helped me strip and re-make the bed, sort and do four loads of laundry; he vac'd while I damp mopped the kitchen floor and stepped and fetched for me whenever I asked. I'm a lucky lady all in all. Guess the three trips to the gym a week have paid off. The therapist came today and was scheduled to come two to three times a week for three to four weeks but "graduated" me today. Said my strength in my arms and legs lets me do pretty much anything I want - 'cept put my one leg down. So I don't have to deal with that anymore until the cast comes off and then the rehab for flexibility starts. Gonna use my new handicapped parking sticker tomorrow to park front row at some restaurant and then the mall! I've convinced David I will need some new "cast friendly" clothes:2thumbs:. Spyderlovers are the best!

It's very good to hear you are progressing. Keep up the great work! We will continue to send good energy your way, and strength to your Husband. It's tough on the Spouse when you are in a situation like this. I know Kath went through so much when I went down. But it sounds like you are going to finish with this ahead of schedule, which is good because your bikes need you! I was looking at the bikes in your stable. Jane, that is an impressive collection. I'm not sure which one is my favorite!

BTW, I know I thanked you for your concern but I want you to know that took those words seriously. And I agree, life can be strange. Get well soon!

Thanks for all your well-wishes and words of advice...I can use them all! I'm doing pretty well. Everything just takes me twice as long to do balanced on one leg. I could certainly use a consult with Seth to learn some wheelchair tips, too! Today I'm back to a more normal routine with laundry, meals, etc. and even checking e-mails and doing Food Pantry paperwork. Keeps me occupied and passes the time. Sent David out for a bike ride since it's in the 50's here today and the hard rain two days ago washed the roads clean of cinders from the last snow. Tomorrow we're in for a bad weather they say.
Hope everyone enjoying good ryding weather today gets a chance to take advantage of it.

Hey Raptor - Just read your last post. We do enjoy riding different bikes and since we're retired have waaaayyy too much time to bike shopnojoke. David has the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 which he loves a lot more than the older 1100 that he had a few years ago. He also has the Hypermotard and a Triumph Speed Triple (which he can't ride a lot due to his back problems of the last few years - but it looks so pretty that he can't do a trade-in on it). He decided that he'll trade his Triumph Tiger in when we get word that my Diavel is in because we're pretty much out of allocated garage space for motorcycles. We enjoy picking a pair of bikes to ride and then plotting a route based on their particular strengths. I sometimes wish we lived down Lamont's way where we had some really spectacular rides, but we make do with going over into Missouri on the alphabet roads and we're just on the tip of the hills left by glacial action so we do have some hilly, twisty rides around here, too. St. Louis is a couple of hours away - not spectacular riding, but good dining choices so we sometimes head up there for lunch - the city traffic keeps us on our toes in a different way than sharp turns and hills, which is all good.
Take care, ride safe, have fun and keep posting those fun travel reports so that I can dream of riding until I can actually do it again. You sure have the right idea about riding to work. We find even going to the doctor or dentist is better if you arrive on a motorcycle:2thumbs:.
