• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We are lovin our new 2014 LT Limited. It came with 2 keys in their little holster. In the reading I've done I see they are a security chip key that the bike needs to start. So I guess you really don't need a security system. Is the dealer the only place to get extra keys? Can I get spare keys just for the luggage that are not chip keys and would they allow me to lock the handlebars and open the frunk? Can I drill a hole in the key to put it on a key ring? I have read the manual and keep looking up info in it. Soooo much tooo learn.<br><br>Also when I post I mark that I want instant notification be email but I'm no getting it on any of my emails. What am I doing wrong? Also what are tags you can add to threads?<br><br>Thanks Mike

It's better not to drill into the key.
Somewhere on SL there is a tutorial on key drilling.

A locksmith can provide a luggage compartment key.

I keep my spare key tie wrapped in a location on the bike that can be accessed in case I lose a key.
Don't tell anyone, this is just between you and me.

Your 2014 has a rolling code chipped key. So far you can only get the keys from BRP or their distributors and dealers. Someone with the BUDS software (dealer) has to program your Spyder to accept that new key and/or delete a key you may have lost. In theory a clone key can be made to work but no one has reported doing so for a 2014 or later model. Yes you can drill a hole in your key for a key ring. Do a search of this site and you should find the info with pictures on where to drill without damaging the chip. Note that some other keys on your key ring could interfere with the chip in your Spyder key cause the starter not to work.

Yes you can get a key cut just to open the luggage compartments or turn the ignition on but not able to start. The most common key that people use is the Ilco X270 key. There are other just look for a key with a S1 profile.

My dealer provided 3 keys when I bought my 2014 RT. On my previous Spyder, bought elsewhere, they programmed keys for me at no cost. I bought the keys elsewhere. That is why when I was in the market for a trade-up, they were my go to dealer.

I do not understand why everyone wants to drill the key, the holster has a
hole . I use mine all the time with a loop on my pants works great slide key in and out locks into holster very well. kenn

Sorry, its a key. It goes on my key ring so it stays with the other keys and not lost by itself. BRP does not need to invent a new paradigm for the use of keys. They should follow the industry lead and do away with mechanical keys. Old and outdated technology.

In the mean time, the Can am key resides on my key ring with the very few remaining mechanical keys I still carry.

Get yourself an Ilco X-270 key blank, and any hardware store with a key-cutting machine can cut it for you!

As far as drilling the originals: Yes; it can be done!

if you just have to stay on rings. Some people have drilled the key but is risky.

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

Thanks for all the info. When I googled it it came up with the keyport key. What exactly is that and what all does it/can it do? I never liked carrying a single key, too many guys I know have lost keys doing that. I don't even like carrying keys in my pocket, I keep them on my belt so I always know where they are.

Thanks again, Mike
