Single handed riding .

Hi , Im a new member and as yet dont own a spyder , something I intend to put right very soon .
I currently ride a Yamaha FJR 1300 which I shall keep once the spyder is bought . Some years ago I was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of my right arm , I had to have my bike altered to suit me . Ive already found a mechanic here in the UK that can swap the throttle over to left hand bar for me .
I intend getting an RT model with the 1330 engine and semi auto box . I would appreciate any advice or tips that any one may have whether they are differently abled or not . Im over 6 feet , fairly strong in my left arm and carry a little extra padding (the winters are long and cold in the uk !!!) . Look forward to your thoughts .

I drove my 08 GS at over 115 mph and could do it using one hand/arm …… In all honesty I don't recommend it for Safety reasons, however if you only have one arm I wouldn't be concerned about it …… of course there will be issues driving fast in the " twistie's " but that is something you can determine for yourself ……. Not sure if you are looking new/used/etc but I was really surprised at the massive difference in power steering from my wife's '11 RT to her '19 RT. The newer models have much better power steering / assist / etc.

There is a forum here that will help as you are not alone with your challenge. Have Ryde with one fellow with similar situation and he did remarkably well...:thumbup:

If you can ride the FJR you should have no problem with a spyder .

Good for you!!! Like said from the other guy's if you have no problem throwing around that two wheeler, the RT will be a cake walk!!! If your mechanic is really good maybe he could fix you up with a foot shifter, that way your left hand would not be quite as busy!! Good Luck, be safe, ride hard!

I met a lady that had lost her right arm. She had a fuel pedal mounted on her left foot, very similar to the brake pedal.

Hi , and thanks to every one for your replies , all good and positive . Will report how it goes over the winter , cant consider a new RT but will be a late model with 1330 engine , no where near as many to choose from here in the UK but will keep looking . Thanks again .

Do what you need to do to make it work and ride hell out of it. Had my left leg cut off at the knee in a motorcycle wreck in 1982. Slowed me down for a little while, until I made a few modifications. Average 12 to 15 thousand miles a year ever since. Bought a new Spyder F3-S in April of this year and able to ride it with very few modifications. Just had to build a leg rest and some holders for the crutches. You can do anything you want to do bad enough. Go for it!

This is some Awesome information! Things have sure come a long way from just a few years ago. If I were missing a limb. I'd sure be looking into something like this. This kind of information is one thing that makes this forum so great!
