• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I took my :spyder: in for it's first service today and saw the side panel trim kits for $99 I really like the idea of them but $99 for two small pieces of plastic ::)
Anyone know of a place to get a better price or have any other alternatives??

I asked one of the local Spyder ryders I met in Valcourt, QC, how he liked his panel trim and he replied, "It's not for me--it's to protect the machine!"

I've been keeping an eye on how much I squeeze or lean into that area of the bodywork before I invest. I was concerned at the exposed screw head I saw (would my knee be banging against it) but he assured me no. Of course, it has been discussed on other areas of this messageboard that height/leg length has much to do with where (and whether!) you come in contact with the plastic panels.

That is why I bought the panels. At first I didn't want them but I use my knees a lot. I was noticing the propensity for rub marks with extended use. I have the panels and they do not bother me a bit. They keep the machine looking good and I actually like the look of them.

Right now, Deb, I'm hunting for a carbon fiber stick-on (Like what's on Lamont's "tank" area) that I might be able to neatly cut, or better, not have to cut:

Some of these rubber ones are interesting, like the Oxford spine:

personally, i hated mine. i put these on a month or so ago, and already lost 2 of the screws. they give you longer screws to use and i lost 2 of them already.
also, while riding last weekend in Newport, RI, the right one fell off. I was riding and i felt something slip down by my foot. i was lucky ot have caught it, and its gasket. but, as soon as i got home, i removed both of them and am now trying to figure out how to get hte glue off from the velcro fasteners.
i have relatively short legs so i really didnt benefit from these to begin with, so, they'll go in a drawer somewhere.

Didn't you also use those velcro like circles they gave you in addition to the gasket and screws? Those things really hold. Even when I take out the screws, I have to pull the panels off. I can't imagine one ever just falling off. I am sorry this happened to you.

At a Michaels or Hobby Lobby craft store....The sticky back 8x10 Foam rubber comes in many colors and makes great tank bag pads, rub stips or even side panel trim kits!!! Anyways....they can be razor cut or if you happen to have a cnc laser cutter, make nice designs. Easily replaceable and usually 3 sheets for .99 instead of 99.00. The material is very flexible and doesn't mind surfaces that has all sorts of concave to convex changes.

Maybe about 1/8 inch max...Not real thick or bulky, but you could stack it for extra padding. Even 1 layer has some vibe reducing properties.
