Shop told me that the hot foot mods would kill my master cylinder

So I just picked up my bike from the shop yesterday. It was throwing a code "1282" about low pressure in the brake line.

So they replaced both front calipers and and the master cylinder under warranty. But the shop guy was very emphatic that the Spyderpops mods to save my feet were cooking the master cylinder and it would fail again if I did not remove them.

I'm frustrated and torn. It is VERY hot where I ride and the stop and go traffic is probably murder on brake temp. Before I got the Spyderpops heat shield, I actually melted the glue holding the sole on for my Sidi boot.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions? I'm starting to think maybe the Spyder is just not compatible with Houston commuting.

I'd find another dealer. I lot of users here have Spyderpop's products and I don't think any of them have had issues.:lecturef_smilie:

Been running the blocker on our '10 RTS since last June and haven't had a problem. Gets pretty hot here to.

I ryde in Yuma, Arizona and I swear by SpyderPops. I'd be looking for another dealer. Many of us have....

Without actually doing some heat readings with the shields installed... and then removed... the mechanic is just guessing at what is going on.

First, I have never had your issue of brake temp issue due to heat.
Second, If it were not for heat shield I would have a right foot burn off.
Third, Have you taken the bottom panels off after installing the heat shield? If not, that is your problem.

As to temp I think I ride in about the hottest area this year. All the way from and to Durango, 100 Plus degrees. Also today 99 degrees where I live.

I live very near you in Texas and run all of Spyderpops products. No brake temp problems in the last year and a half. I feel it is your dealer. For some reason certain dealers want to blame every problem on aftermarket accessories and other are impressed by them. Just my 2 cents.

:agree:As others have stated, I too had the sole of my boot come undone from the exteme heat from the right side vent. I had misplaced my SpyderPops HeatShield when I took it off over the winter:dontknow: and then couldn't locate it:lecturef_smilie: and Teddy and I rode for the hottest 2 months without it:yikes: and got the melted sole of my boot:sour: Finally located it, and replaced it, and all is well in our world once again:yes:I'd think if the SpyderPops HeatShield was truly causing your problem, then I'd be inclined to think that your temp. gauge :mad:would be reading in the higher limits:chill: Ours rarely EVER goes above 5 bars (on the digital gauge) As forrest mentioned, have you made sure that the lower (underneath) splash guard has been removed:hun: to alow more airflow to espcape:clap:If not, I'd recommend doing that NOW:rolleyes: Keep us updated and I hope you get this worked out. Ryding with a blow torch on your right foot is NO FUN nojoke

David...are you going to Mancuso Edgebrook? I have all of Spyderpops products....no brake problems...Mark says the heat sheild actually protects the brake master cyl....Mancuso is looking for ways to cover their a.... and lack of knowledge....do not remove the heat sheild.....

My local dealer here in PA just started to sell some of SpyderPops heat remedies, so I would doubt they would be installing them if it were causing issues like that.

Dealers are alwys going to be suspect of non-factory modifications and additions. Tell them to explain exactly how this mod burns down the brakes. Then ask to see their temperature readings that support this "Theory". :gaah:
Oh! Make sure that the bottom tins are out of the bike so that the heat can leak out somewhere...

Nope, I am driving all the way to Katy for Wild West Honda.

Nice guys I think but the visit was a little more annoying than I had hoped. See my other thread about my brake failure:
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?42446-Brake-Failure-Code-1282-on-08-GS-need-advice.

I still have the bottom covers on, will add that to my list of tasks that need to get done.

Since nobody else has brought it up. Are you sure you are not touching the brake pedal, even a little ?
I should know better, but I did it again on a PGR escort coming to Funersl Home parking and lots of starts/stops. I blame new boots. Others say just getting old. Others say :cus:.

I really hoped that would be the problem but apparently it was a real problem. Shop said they bled the lines and would get pressure up just fine and then it would act like it had a bubble and no pressure. They bled it several times then gave up and replaced most of the brake system.

So yeah, thanks for the idea but they were able to reproduce an actual low pressure with the bike up on the lift.

Interesting posts - I have a RS. Is the removal of the pans (sheet metal) a thing on the RT or does it also apply to the RS.
Thanks.

don't get it

i don't get all these hot foot problems on the gs, rs. i have no problems at all. i ride in mesh gym shoes. home made heat management is about it. check your right side exhaust clamp, make sure it's real tight. remove your splashpans from underneath, you should be good to go.
maybe it's my coooooooooooool exhaust.:roflblack:

Coz, I agree with you on this . Vermont doesn't get a lot of hot days, but lately there has been a string of 90's...and I have never had any hot foot problems either....I have no special diverters either and my pans are even intact.....I think it's the RT that has this issue more than the RS-GS.....Mike...
