Set to begin my first Epic Spyder Journey

I have taken several long road trips on previous two wheel devices and am about to embark on my first epic trip on the new 2014 RT SE6. (Did short jaunts from NYC to the Adirondacks and another to Maine to break it in and get up to the first service.) I write stage plays (as a hobby, need my day job to pay the bills) and coincidentally two of my short plays won competitions and will be performed within a week of each other - one in Springfield MO and the other in Oxford, MS. I have built a road trip around them and will post a few photos and updates here if you don't mind.

First I'll be taking my new BRP on my favorite BRP - Blue Ridge Parkway as well as the Dragon and other mountain roads. I love the BRP but it will be my first time on the Spyder.

I then make my way to Springfield MO where my short play BIG PAYDAY will be performed at Drury University and I will be there for opening night. I also think I've heard there may be a small Spyder gift shop there and may check them out for farkles. Any suggestions?

Next I head to Cincinnati, visiting family and satisfying my need for the three G's - Gold Star, Goetta, and Graeters. Those who know understand.

Next a stop off in Nashville for one of my favorite joints, the Loveless Cafe - best biscuits and gravy (other than my own). Then a trip down the Natchez Trace which I have never taken.

Then to Theatre Oxford in Oxford MS where they will perform my new short play TAKE WING, again I'll be there for opening night. After that it is a sprint to get home before going back to work, hopefully in two long days but depending on weather and conditions may take three.

Really looking forward to it, especially on my new Spyder, Josephine (Cognac color, make the connection...)

Natchez Trace

The Trace is a beautiful ride - peaceful, easy paced, tree covered. I've never been on the Trace when I didn't see plenty of deer, turkey and other wildlife. The speed limit on most of the Trace is around 50 - stick to it so you can enjoy the scenery, enjoy not getting a ticket, and so that you have lots of time to react to deer.

If you make it as far as MS, stop at French Camp at have the world's best BLT at the Council House Cafe. Also a nice bed & breakfast with cabins made in the 1800s (obviously with some updates!)

I have traveled the BRP on bikes, a sidecar, cars, and even a truck. I am so eager to ride it this month on a Spyder.

My friend Brenda and I stayed at a nice B&B on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi in Natchez last year. We were joined at breakfast with a couple from Germany and a young couple from Baton Rouge on a sport bike. It's called "Bluff Top" and can be found in the NT link below.

If you have time, go see the rock wall just off the trace after you pass Florence, Alabama. I've been wanting to see it for several years, and we finally did so last month. It is just off the trace but for me was a little difficult to pinpoint. It is called the Wichahpi Stone Wall, and was built entirely by hand, no mortar, and has 8+ million pounds of rocks from all over the world. I'll go back.

YES, riding the BRP on a BRP is fantastic... I advise however, to try an do the BRP on your BRP during the week-days... come weekends, this time of year can be rather painfully slow...

a little story for you (and others).... a woman was looking at my '09 RS back in '09 and asked; "what does the BRP stand for?" while looking at the front logo. i said that "we are awarded this logo when we ride the Blue Ridge Parkway". she looked puzzled, and said, "but you have one in back too"... my come-back was, "we get the front one when we ride the BRP from north to south, and the read one when we ride from south to north"... she was ok with that, and smiled and walked away....

First day good with rain

First day ryde from NYC to Waynesboro VA went well but had rain for the last half hour. Will have it again tomorrow for start of ride of BRP. That's OK as long as my stop in Craggy Garden, my favorite spot on the Parkway is clear. Using a Biker's Friend large bag on the pillion seat. Using the back section to hold it in place (as nice back rest for me) but only loosely attached straps. This allows me to pop the seat during refueling and use the attitude backrest pad as wedge to hold it open. Someday I'll spring for a seat with a fuel door but this works for now.

Keep those site suggestions coming. I'm adding them to my list and will do as many as I can.

Here in the NorthEast it is our trusted EZ Pass system where some toll roads are slightly cheaper for (M)otorcycle riders. Wish I could place it somewhere hidden and still be read but that's a whole other thread!

You should try it! Once that door is closed behind you it is nice and dark and easier to sleep!

Actually, living in Manhattan the safer and cheaper way to store the bike is in a storage unit in New Jersey. I park a 400cc scooter on Manhattan streets and then scoot over the bridge in five minutes to get to my three wheel ryde. Nice system.
