Searching for a back case organizer

We are about to add the SENA SM10 transmitters to our Spyders and will locate them in the back cases along with the IPods and other accessory cords for the SENA units and cell phones we store back there.

I have spent the morning looking at Auto Zone, O'Reilly's as well as on line for an organizer to put all this stuff in so I can secure it inside the case.

Right now we have velcroed the IPods to the inside wall of the back case but after a hard day's ride they usually come loose and fall down inside the case somewhere.

Has anyone found an organizer with pockets to place stuff in that can be secured in the back case?

I don't want to drill into the case to add bolts behind the passenger back rest but if that is the only way to secure an organizer I guess I could waterproof the holes with RTV.

Any one have any ideas?

I bought BRP's MP-3 player bag, and mounted it in the top trunk...

...only I didn't use the small leather holder that they included. I used a pouch that I had used on my hunting belt... the sort of pouch that you'd carry extra ammo, a compass, matches, or a small flashlight in. It hangs on the BRP hardware, and holds my XM radio receiver... :thumbup:

We use this Amazon Basics case. It holds both SM10's, the SMH10, all cords, and a 12volt to dual usb plug.

Double Trouble,

The SM10 comes with a mounting bracket that will mount to the inside wall of the trunk with heavy-duty velcro. You are going to want to do that so that you don't have to futz with the power cord and the input cable each time you use it. BRP sells a semi-rigid MP3/iPod holder that mounts inside the trunk and does a rather nice job. It uses screws that are already there. Here's a picture of my set-up for these two items....

As for storage compartments in the trunk, look at TricLED "Spyder Pockets" as a unique idea. I have just the top (trunk lid) pocket and the two pockets for the side compartment doors and find them extremely convenient. All three utilize space inside the lids that would normally just be wasted space.

We've had our SM10 for a couple of years...work great.

Rear trunk location is ideal as far as I'm concerned...easy access. Get in a routine to shut them off each time you park your Spyder for awhile.....not during day trips, but when parked in your garage...they will discharge if not shut off...it's part of my routine now and no problem....I mounted the SM10 in the lid of the rear trunk for easy access to turn on and off. I only remove it from the Spyder in the winter when stored.

Thanks for the post as I'm interested in how to better organize the rear trunk as well, specifically the IPOD classic I have in there. Maybe Velcro is the answer??

I am attaching a few photos of the SM10 on my rear trunk lid along with the SM10 pairing instructions ( I got them from the SENA Tech Service )....they are much easier to understand than the manual that comes with the SM10.

Take a look at leather motorcycle tank bags. Match drill/cut holes in the bag and use longer versions of the bolts securing the passenger seat back to secure the bag. You may need to use spacers if the bag is longer than the recessed area where the bag will sit. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on the shipment and thanks for the video showing how you mounted everything. I have been using the not-very-sticky velcro so I will go and get the heavy duty stuff and use it. I appreciated the battery saving tips.

A question on pairing. Right now our headsets are paired to each other... one to her Spyder and one to mine. When we get the SM10's installed and pair each one to the respective SENA sets in our helmets... do we just leave the set to set pairing in place? The SENA units can be paired to more than one device... correct?

When I called, waited about 10 -15 minutes...once Tech got on the phone, extremely helpful and well worth the wait.

That's what I did when I set up my SM10. I figured that would be the best way to make sure everything works properly together. it's not that big of a deal – you just get everything together in one place that you want to pair and have at it. ( Don't forget your GPS.)

Before you pair anything, make sure that all of your headsets and the SM10 have the latest firmware. (When you do a software update you have to re-pair anyway.) The SM10 will likely need a firmware update right out-of-the-box.

BTW, Here's one thing that the instructions do not tell you... After you paired together everything properly, if you turn the SM10 off, your cell phone will then automatically connect in both the phone and media (music) modes. That's kind of neat because it means that you can still use your phone for things like Pandora radio when you want to. You can only have one media input to your headset at a time. The SM10 takes priority over the phone for media input. So if the SM10 is turned on the next time you connect your headset, the music input will be coming from that and not the phone. ( With the SM 10 turned on, the phone will still connect in phone only mode, of course.)

FWIW, I did NOT do mine the way that tech-support guy advised above because I also wanted my GPS in the loop. I paired my smartphone to the SMH10 first, then I paired the Bluetooth dongle as a "second smartphone" using the instructions in the SMH10 manual, and then I paired the GPS using the multi pairing instructions from the same manual. I believe this may be the reason that I am able to use either my phone or the SM10 as a music input, as described in the paragraph immediately above. (Not sure because I never tried the method the tech described.)

My opinion based on experience. Yes unpair everything. In fact do a factory reset on the headsets (it's in your manual)

Then pair things based on the priority Sena says devices have:
(Highest) Mobile Phone,
GPS,
Intercom,
(Lowest) Bluetooth Stereo Music

- So pair your phone first if you use one. If your partner has one to, do that to hers as well.
- Pair the GPS to the driver helmet if you have a GPS. Now since you have a SM10, DO NOT pair to the GPS as a hands free profile! Well unless you really want that. Your phone is a hands free profile already and I had issues when doing this.
Also I paired my GPS to the helmet NOT the phone to the GPS then to the helmet.
- Pair the intercom between helmets next.
- Now pair the SM10 FIRST to the driver helmet then to the passenger (I found this important as when I was solo I had issues if I paired to the passenger helmet first).

Final tip and I know you wont like this. If you have any issues later e.g. something not working right. Factory reset and do over.
It does seem the pairing order can cause issues.

By the way.... just to add.... I have a GPS setup including a cable I made connecting it to the radio of the Spyder. Very nice working one! Used it when needed all the time...... UNTIL........

I got a iPhone 6 Plus. Now I do not need the GPS as the phone does it all and does it all via Bluetooth using Siri. Freaking WAY better than a stand alone GPS. The beauty is, the phone is in the trunk in a bag not connected to anything! I don't need to mount it, etc....

I plan to do a video showing how this work... Freaking WONDERFUL!

Does anyone else have these Spyder Pockets for the RT rear trunk? Are they worth the $120 price tag?
