• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SE5 Question

:helpsmilie:I plan on purchasing a Spyder next Spring and am leaning towards a SM5. The main reason is price, but I also do not know that much about the SE5's transmission. Are there any reliability problems/longevity problems with the semi-auto? It would be nice to have for ease of use, but I am worried about having to get it worked on also. Is it expensive if you need any maintenance done on the transmission? Or (if your not extremely mechanically inclined) can you do the maintenance yourself? Thanks for your reply!

I bought a SE 09 in the crate feb 09, got almost 18k on it and I drive it as fast as it will go and I have not had any trouble with the transmission, I would run full syn oil, it shifts better.

I have a SE5 and a little over 1000 miles on mine. Never had any problems with the transmission, runs great :2thumbs:

Almost sounds like the Wizard . . . .

We have several members, like Atadude, who are constantly taking their Spyders apart and finding extra pieces left over when they put them back together. They probably are as mechanically inclined as you. They just have less fear and jitters. But they do have the full brain power of this forum behind them to help overcome any difficulties they run into.

Sorry, the above was a joke. :joke: poking some fun at one of our members. No joke, nojoke There are lots of mechanically inclined people on this forum to help with specific questions you might have when you get your Spyder - and Atadude is one helpful guy.

The SE5 transmission is fine - I guess in general, as reliable as a Manual. Get an extended warranty - just to be on the safe side, in the rare case something might happen. Transmission work is best done in a shop specializing in that - just like cars.

The SE5 semi-automatic transmission do a better job with the clutch that 75% of human riders IMHO.

Any SE5 that had the ground coil wire update (August/September) should be very reliable.

As far as I know the transmission is the same. Not an automatic transmission with bands and planetary gears, etc. It is the shifting mechanism and clutches that differ, plus some additional electronics. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Over 7K miles here without a single hiccup! If you are not sure about operating the clutch you will not regret getting a SE5.

welcome

Have about 1300 miles on my '09 SE5. Shifts just fine...dunno what this ground wire update mentioned is all about.:spyder:
