• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Saving up, leaving the Guzzi. Pending newbie.

My wife has always been a good sport about my interests. "You want to buy a fire engine? Sure. I don't care." Or a Model T Speedster... Reliant Robin... King Midget... Checker Marathon. Sure. I started cheap, and ended at about $10k, adding a bit of money with each sale and subsequent purchase. My current is a 2009 Moto Guzzi California Vintage. Beautiful bike.... but not for two up riding.. which gets me to my next point.

As we face retirement, I want to develop some interests we can do together. Heck, WE want make that happen.

A few days before Father's Day she asks if I'd like to do something that weekend. She throws out a couple of suggestions, and I yawn. So, for the first time in our 29 year marriage I ask her to go to a motorcycle store with me. She remains a good sport, so yeasterday we headed up the highway about an hour north of Seattle to Lifestyle Motorsports. Long story short, the sales guy has me riding a 2015 Can Am RT Limited, with my wife on back. It's a beautiful Spring day as we go winding up the twisties into the lower Cascade Mountains.

What a beautiful machine. I knew I'd be sold, as I'd taken the Trike Course for the Washington State 3 wheel endorsement, and they had a pair of Spyders there. I'd been lusting after a sidecar, and actually planned to add one to the Guzzi. Yeah, I like the odd stuff. I had dreams of long road trips, but of late they'd become nightmares from fear of taking a physical beating, especially in my back. Sidecars are some work! I'd been following the Spyders since they were first released, but they were outside my price range, and perhaps not odd enough!

So, with my advancing age and desire for comfort in mind, I started to dream again of Spyders, of road trips in something far more comfortable than some odd sidecar rig. After the 25 minute test ride I was in love. But what of my wife? As usual, she was supportive, but she was far more than that, as now she had some Spyder dreams, too, as the first words out of her mouth were, "This is more comfortable than our Chevy Malibu or Smart Car. I could see taking this for a week up into the San Juan Islands!"

We head home, leaving the Spyder behind, and for the hour ride home in that little Smart Car we talk of how to "make it so", how to get a Spyder RT-Limited. WIthin another hour I had some odd instruments and such posted on Ebay, and I've arranged with the local Guzzi dealer to sell my bike. I was gathering funds. We are still a few months, even perhaps a year away from purchase, but it's now a shared dream, a vision for building more of a life together... after kids and after retirement.

This is going to be good. Isn't it? I am hoping so!

My Missus was the driving force behind my purchase of my 2010 (RT)
Sharing the rides; is sharing the joy! :firstplace:

Honda 305 Dream, as I recall, though I traded it for something else before I got it running. The others are all Cushmans. The truck is a Cushman Mailster, as used by the Post Office in the late 50's. The mini-harley is the first year Cushman Eagle, yes, with Sidecar. Never got those going before I traded. Hmm. A pattern? And then there is a Package Car from Cushman. Got that fixed up and running! ;-)

Welcome! Sounds like you are a kindred spirit to many of us. My two cents-Life is short and none of us know what tomorrow will bring so I say get the Spyder as soon as possible!

Of course you could further shorten the wait by purchasing a last years model or picking up a used 2014 in your choice of bling:yes::yes::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

YOU JUST MISSED THEM

just sold on E-bay were two Cognac 2014 low mileage LTD's for less than $ 24,000 each....I think both had extra's above the stock stuff like extended warranties etc.....Mike

Bryan, I have bought 2 spyders from Lifestyles they will give you a great deal they also have an excellent mechanic and they are spyder lovers site sponsors. I would think they would take your Guzzi in on trade as they have all kinds of used inventory?
If you are on a little tighter budget you will want to price the standard RT or maybe the RTS.
right now they are offering the 2014 models at 2,000 off and a 2 year extended warranty.
If they still have some 2014 models hanging around I would go for it you won't be disappointed

My Mrs. encouraged me to jump into the Spyder world. She developed arthritis and couldn't do the two wheel motorcycle on long trips any longer. We saw an add and test drove one the next day. Bought a used one the following week and never regretted it. We now have about 30,000 miles on the Spyder with more long rides and memories than I could every imagine. It really made a difference in her riding and the trips we now take. I still work full time (3 1/2 more years) but we ride every chance we get. You won't regret the transition. Do it now and start enjoying life, making memories and having fun together. Best motor decision I ever made.

Thanks

Thanks Chuck. Good to know they are good folks. I drove past another dealer to get up there. In good traffic it is an hour plus away! I would definitely go for an rts at the right price.

There don't seem to be any 2014s with SE6 in the state. I could also wait until January or so. I need to sell a few things, anyway. THen the 2015 bikes would see a price drop.

So, on Ebay... why did this bike not sell? Any thoughts?

Wife has rode with me for 33 of my 60 years on the planet

I have rode 52 of those years on everything (including the 305 Honda)

9 months on the 2014 rt se6

It is the best experience two people can have (if you like it) and we do

Run! dont walk to your dream

Sounds like a decent deal with a knowledgeable add and super low miles?
there has been some really good deals advertised here on spyderlovers in the for sale /WTB section I saw one that came with a trailer and had low miles for far less than buying one new and since you can transfer warranties I wouldn't be afraid to buy a low mile used unit.
keep saving up and look for those left over end of year specials. Warning next your Wife will want one. :yikes:

I keep leaning toward selling my '14 RT-S SM6. Don't use it anymore, wasn't ready to give up two wheels so I ride a two wheeler every day. Just picked up another two wheeler this week. Managed to put 3k miles on the RT-S since new in September.

Or maybe just keep it on the battery tender and wait till the two wheel phase finally does pass....

If you have the space, and the ability to maintain it; why not keep it? :dontknow:

Leaning that way Bob. Only costs insurance and taxes, neither of which is that much. Just feel a bit guilty leaving it sit. I'll probably change my mind come fall when the unfaired two wheelers leave my teeth chattering.
