Saturday 5.9.20 trip

I'm taking a nice 120 mile, 3 hour trip this Saturday to include part of the Blue Ridge Parkway (from Deep Gap to Cherry Lane). It's supposed to be on the cooler side (might need to swap windscreens to the 7Jurock) but sunny.

Just wanted to see if anybody else in my area (Wilkes Co, NC) wanted to go along. I'll attach a screen shot of the plans. I plan on leaving late morning to give things a chance to warm up some. Gas up before I leave and probably top off my tank in/around Elkin. Nice leisurely trip. No hotrodding. I ride about 6 over the limit on the highways and no more than about 48 on the BRP (it's a 45 mph speed limit).

Saturday morning Charlotte forecast is low of 37 deg, you will be ALOT cooler up in mountains. I can't make it. Did you replace that bad bolt yet??????

No, on the bolt. I'll wait til midday before I head out. I figure it'll be 50ish at the house and in the upper 40s to 50 in the mountains. I've got [not sure what word I was going for here] and jackets and even rain pants to keep the cool breeze off my legs, if needed.

I really need to get your number. We were in your town this past Sunday. We hopped on 421 from the Raleigh area and passed through Wilkesboro. Then we got on the BRP and headed south. Had to get off near Blowing Rock because the BRP was closed. Took 221 all the way to where it gets near Little Switzerland. We did the Diamond Back loop (226a), which was like our own little road race coarse. We wanted to take the BRP over to 80 and do the Devil's whip back down to 70. But the BRP was closed back there also. So we just did the loop again and headed down 221 to 70. We were going to go west and take 80 up to the BRP, turn around and come back before heading to Marion and then home. But by that time it would have put us getting home around 9:30-10. So we just hopped on 40 and headed home. I was the only spyder in the group, but I held my own very well. I was just behind the 3 sport bikes, but way ahead of the 2 cruisers. Total miles traveled was exactly 500, in 12 hours, 5 minutes.

Holy cow blacklightening, that sounds more like a 3 day trip. The route sounds fabulous. Perhaps this fall we will be coming that way on our migration toward Florida. Would you be available to be a tour glide? Though we've been on the BRP several times, we haven't gotten off much and been able to enjoy all those roads you all know about.

did you go on the ride? what temps did you have???

I didn't. I rode down to Statesville to meet up w/jetfixer. Right now, it's not supposed to rain Saturday until later in the day. If I can get my butt going early enough and the rain holds off until later in the afternoon, I might make the trip this Saturday. All depends on the weather. If I get caught in the rain, I'm not going to stop but I'm not going to make it a point to ride in the rain.

I would love to meet and ride. We will be in the Maggie Valley area for the spyder rally from 10/7-11 with 2 other couples. We would be glad to give you a tour of the beautiful area. There will probably be lots of riders going out each day. I normally just take a few along with me and we tend to discover the more tucked away places. I also have plans to be in the area in August if you are near Gatlinburg.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and ryding with Keith many times over the years. He’s a great guy, has great friends, and knows the area and roads well. The rides are not only spectacular, but are incredible fun, at much more than a snail’s pace. I’m planning to make it to Maggie Valley again this fall.

Thanks for the kind words. Definitely will be looking to hook up with you again this year. This years pace might be a bit slower, as the wife will be with me. We are staying in Maggie Valley though. We got a cabin with the other 2 couples and are looking forward to seeing you again.
I will actually be up there this coming August with the wife, daughters, and grandkids. We are staying in Pigeon Forge and going to try to make some family memories before the grandkids get too big to want to be around us. Ride safe.
