• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT-S Break In Period?

Picking up my new RT-S this afternoon. :ohyea: Does anyone know if there is a "break-in" period with the Spyder.

I was invited to go on a ride with friends this weekend, but someone mentioned to me that they usually recommend a break in period where you vary your riding, speed & RPM for the first few hundred miles, no highway riding. I don't remember seeing anything in the owners manual for my RS concerning break in.

On a side note, I originally ordered an RT a/c with the fog lights and additional speakers. BRP informed my dealer yesterday that the fog light accessory for the RT a/c will not be available until later this summer and they can't confirm the price. This is odd as the fog lights are listed on their web-site along with a price of $429.99. As I didn't feel like waiting until June or July, I decided to cancel the order and purchase an RT-S, which the dealer had in stock. Has anyone else ordered an RT a/c with the fog lights? Just curious. :dontknow:

Yes. there is a break-in period, it is the first 600 miles or so. It is not by speed but by rpm. You should ride as much as possible with the rpm varied. I rode mine for the first 300 miles conservatively and the second 300 miles with the rpm over 5000 as much as possible. Remember the power curve on this engine is 5000 to 8000 rpm and it needs to be broken in also.

The other Scotty

The RT-S is the standard transmission. You change RPM all over the place when you shift. That's always been my thought. But absolutley get the oil changed around 600 miles. ABSOLUTELY. That break-in oil gets very dirty.

Page 44-45 of Owners Manual / Operators Guide

"during first 200 miles avoid hard braking"

during the first 600 miles,

Avoid full throtle acceleration.

Avoid prolonged riding.

"If the cooling fan operates continuously during stop and
go traffic, pull over and shut off the engine to let it cool off
or speed up to let air cool off the engine."

also read the warning at top of page 45.

I ride all of my new stuff like I stole it right out of the box. The rings seats within the first 20-30 miles. I usually ease off after couple of hundred miles and change out the initial oil and switch over to syn at 500.

Just like i did with my 2008 RS, I broke in my 2010 RT-S just as Scotty advised.

Ride one less gear than you would normally. Keep the RPM in the 5000's. Seat those rings. Change the oil at 600. Have the first maintenance and adjustments done by the dealer. after that, you can do your own if can.
