After I bought my slightly used 2010 RT with a little over 1k mi I had it serviced at 2 dealers to catch up on all the recalls and service that was overdue. One was replacement of the failing rear shock.
Recently I looked at the drive belt and thought it looked a little tight on the inside flange so I decided to adjust it. First, I read all I could find as to how to do the belt alignment and all the specs.
but when I put a wrench on the axle nut, it was barely tightened! With a torque wrench I was able to take several turns before getting near the 96 ft/lb spec !
I dont like to think about all the fast riding I have done in the last 5 months, on interstates, twisty mountain roads, etc with a barely tightened rear axle!
You would sure think that at the rates we pay for service, you could count on better quality. Now, I feel like I need to cross check and tighten everything touched by anyone else. My safety is at stake, so I sure will be watching closely in the future!
