There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT Changing Brake Pads!

Changing 2012 RT rear tire at 16,000 miles and noticed the Brake Pads Need replacing. I know its a 9mm allen to get the pads off but the round disk (Parking Brake) is in front of one of the bolts- Do You remove it or work around it?

Make sure your not changing them too early! They are not like car brake pads.

Bob
Thanks for this video. I am getting a squeal from mine on a 2014 RT. Each time I have the bike serviced I ask them to check the brakes and they say they are fine. I now have a little over 17k and I getting worried. I just got in a hitch, so this will be a great time to check them.

Thanks again.

1 mm seems awful small for a brake pad but my rotor is fine (very smooth) and I take it they don't have a wear in thing that makes then start to chirp like a car.

Thanks Bob! After further review- comparing the New Pad with what I Have left it appears I have about 65% left on the inner pad and about 55% on the outer pad. This after 4 Years and 16,000 Miles (I had 2 Spyders those 4 years which kept the mileage down somewhat)
I am going to clean and lubricate the posts and paint some Brake Quiet with a tiny brush on the back of each pad and check again in another 4-5 thousand miles.

When I think about it my 09 GS was traded in with 33,000 miles and the pads were in Good shape - I don't expect the RT Pads to last as long?

I have 24K on my rear pads now. Mine is a SM5 and I downshift a lot.
I will be replacing them very soon.

Well, I checked my rear pads and they are fine. How does the front pads seem to wear in comparison to the rear pads? At 17k miles, the rear look very well.

I got 47,000 miles on my first set of front pads and I just checked them yesterday and they are still good with 41,000 on this set. My rear pads had 27,000 on them when I changed them last week.

A little tip for keeping the adjustment plates forward is to Put a crusty old sponge between the plates and the cover-Cut a slit on the bottom so it wraps around the bolt.
I did this on my 09GS and put them on the RT today because I Loosen the adjustment bolts 2 1/2 Complete 360 degree turns to work the belt of while moving the wheel backwards. I take measurement before and after like the manual does. I then tighten the same amount and take the measurements again. I just would rather do this sitting in a chair than laying on the ground trying to get the shock bolt Off AND On.
Which ever method you use this will help hold the axle forward.
