• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I see that these are 1157 bulbs, does anyone know if they can be upgraded to LED by removing the 1157 bulb from the OEM housing?

NO! the nanny checks the load on the brake lights and will put you in limp mode if it doesn't see what it needs. There are bulbs available from site sponsors here that will work, they have load resistors built in, so nanny stays happy.

I thought LED bulbs took less power than filament bulbs... I am confused! What is it about LED's that the nanny finds so distasteful? :helpsmilie:

Resistance....

the nanny senses that the bulb is out because it is not using the correct voltage/causing a resistance. The nanny will go into limp mode if your brake light go out. You can add that resistance and the use the led bulbs or add led to the exsisting bulbs...

the outriggers are leds...

Ahhhh! Ok that makes a little more sense now.

So you can add a little draw to the existing brake light circuit, but if you draw less then it thinks the brake lights are not working and goes in to limp mode. There really aught to be a better way to alert the rider that the brake lights aren't working but oh well. LOL!

Thanks for the info. I really don't want to change my bulbs to LED's, but I'd like to switch my passive reflectors to active marker lights and was wondering how that affects the nanny.

Not a problem...

They sell a replacement cover on ebay/amazon or you can modify the exsisting one to use the license plate light. This turns it into a running light. You would have to tap into the brake with a new dual filament to make it work for both...very doable...

LED Upgrades

I see that these are 1157 bulbs, does anyone know if they can be upgraded to LED by removing the 1157 bulb from the OEM housing?

The LEDs draw much less current than the incandescent filament bulbs, the "nanny" monitors the current to determine if the various lights are functioning, if not then it puts you into the "Limp Mode". Does seem if there were just a simpler less dangerous method of notifying you that a bulb or bulbs have failed. My Cages all just give a warning icon on the dash display.

However, several vendors have after market LED lighting kits available that include the necessary load equalizers to keep the "Nanny" happy. One such vendor is CUSTOM DYNAMICS they have something for most motorcycles and have a variety of lights for the SPYDER, including Side Markers, Turn Signals, Tail Lights and Brake Lights.

As one person posted it is simpler to just add LEDs in parallel with the existing lamps, and this will work just fine until the original bulb burns out then the "Nanny" kicks in.

I just installed the Custom Dynamics Triple Play LED turn signal lights ..... question ... would the OEM turn signal bulbs serve as replacements for the OEM taillight bulbs if one quits? if so, I should carry them as spares to keep the nanny happy... ride safe, Jim
