• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Roadside Assistance and MORE

Last week one of our riding club members walked me through a program called H.O.G. Simply, it is a roadside assistance PLUS program that is provided by a third party but for obvious reasons hyped by Harley-Davidson. Dependent upon the level of membership, the benefits are quite simply fantastic.

I have scoured the internet looking for anything similar, and have found that similar albeit lesser "quality" programs are promoted by Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Indian. I was unable to find anything for Victory or Triumph but perhaps I didn't look hard enough. My obvious intent was to find something/anything for Canam Spyders, of which there is nothing.

With YOUR Spyder(s) are there programs out there that I might have missed, or is AAA or CAA (in Canada) the obvious solution for us?

I have AAA and SAMs club which covers Autos, RV's, and Cycles. I have yet to use either.

When I insured my bike through, Progressive Insurance, I added a rider to cover roadside assistance and towing. I'm not sure if Canadian insurance companies work the same. However, I did find out that my insurance company and BRP use the same service provider. Unfortunately, I don't remember the company. My thought is if you can find the roadside assistance service that BRP uses for their new spyders, then perhaps you could call them to find out if they will sell directly to you or maybe point you to someone who might. Good luck.

I have Geico insurance on my 2014 RTS-SE6 and I have Towing + Labor Costs on my policy. Also I have had to use it yet. I have been with Geico going on 4 years.

Check your motorcycle policy to see If they Towing.

CLUE reports

While listening to a financial talk show on the radio, I heard about this thing called a CLUE report. Insurance companies use this to track claims made against policies by people. One of the things that was discussed is the roadside assistance programs offered by insurance companys. You pay for this additional coverage but when you use it, it counts as a claim against your policy. Your insurance company can then use that claim as a way of raising your premium in much the same way any claim might have that effect. And since this CLUE report is shared throughout the industry, it would well result in a higher quote should you decide someday to change your carrier.

If that is in fact the case, you might be better off considering a stand alone service like AAA.

If you are looking into getting AAA, do your research....Even though they may have MC coverage in your state they may not have it in the county you live in.

Roadside Assistance - Canada

Murray,

I also have a ST for my wife. We use CAA and had to call them in early spring due to a dead battery issue. No issues with them what-so-ever. Flat bed tow and no extra charges up to 200 kms.

And definatly not nation wide. Recommend looking elsewhere for motorcycle coverage.

When we left Good Sam, we looked at a number of RA providers and went with AARP.

I joined the AMA - American Motorcycle Association - as it supports a great cause as well....

We are also members of AMA, but their coverage is very limited and no way to purchase upgrades. We had to go elsewhere for reasonable coverage for longer trips from home.

My personal experiene.

BRP roadside is minimum mileage towed. Something like 50 miles...

AAA make sure you get the RV coverage that includes motorcycles. Specifically ask. They now limited you to two/200 miles tows annually and as someone else stated AAA may be state/county specific. For example in 2012 I broke down in TN...that AAA "agent" said they did not honor AAA from WA state. So I called WA and that agent said...OK but if you are willing to pay and save receipts we will reimburse. Which I did and they did...no ? asked. Go

Good Sam..I switched to Good Sam from AAA because they do not limit #of miles or times per year. When I ?'d multiple times and to multiple agents (called back several times to get diff person)...One gal did say...OK here is an example. If you call us the 5th time because you have a dead battery we are going to tell you to BUY A BATTERY. On my way to Spyderfest this year I hit a rock and split rim on Spyder. I was in Kansas on a less used road...and it was Sat evening...Good Sam could not find a rollback truck. SL came to the rescue and Good Sam said get receipts and we will reimburse. I did and they did.

Roadside attached to my AMA membership and also my liability insurance are both very limited mileage like 35 miles....with limited mileage I would have to break down within a few miles of a dealership. For me that is like HUH...dealers are sometimes a long ways away (last incident mentioned above the dealer was 7/5 hrs away)...so you can see 35-50 miles isn't going to do your wallet much good.

Any other ?...I will share my experience and opinion at NO COST!!! :yikes::roflblack::thumbup:
