Okay, first let me say that you all were correct, but you have to understand that caveats may apply. I successfully popped off the mirror, but not before realizing that the front, lower pin was not releasing from the dual-wire retainer when I rapped upwards on the outside edge of the mirror. A slight coat of lubricant was applied when reinstalling the mirror.
My instructions to someone who asked about removing the mirror for the first time would be as follows:
Place one hand on top of the mirror where the mirror connects to the body. With the other hand, give a firm rap upwards at the bottom, outside edge of the mirror. The mirror should pop loose from the two pins which insert into a pair of dual-pin retainers in the mirror body. It should feel loose and have a noticable gap at the bottom of the mirror. You should now be able to lift the mirror off the last pin which is sitting in a key-hole retainer located at the top of the mirror body.
IF THE MIRROR DOES NOT LIFT OFF, however, the lower, front pin may not have released, even though the mirror body seems to lift away from the bike at the bottom. If this appears to be the case, curl your fingertips beneath the mirror body, directly in line with the pin. Then give a slight yank upwards to release the mirror from the remaining pin. Be sure to hold the mirror when doing this because when that last pin releases, it's coming off.
