Removal of BRP OEM driver backrest?

I want to remove the OEM Backrest on my wife's 2014 RTL. It has a metal "latch" mechanism under the seat, but when moved side to side, nothing will move, the backrest will not release when pulled upward. I have looked for YouTube videos and searched Google to no avail and find quite a bit of information for the aftermarket brands but not the original BRP one with the two "forks" that is inserted into the keeper in the seat. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

On my wife's '17 RT-S, there is a little tab that is just right of center in the bracket under the seat.

Move that tab toward the center (to the left) while pulling up on the backrest.

When you push the latch Steve spoke of to the left (toward the center line of the seat) with your other hand grab the bottom of the backrest and wiggle it as you pull upward and it should come out.
